I've now shifted over to mostly recording all my field recordings in Mid/Side (unmatrixed). Both my boss and I review the recordings in MacOS Finder first before working on them. Are there any audio players out there that can matrix Mid/Side recordings, just for review purposes? If not, I could whip up one in Max/MSP, but it probably would be clunky and take more time to make than just buying one.
ALSO, I accidentally recorded some files on a MS setup pre-matrixed. Am I correct in assuming that if I run them through a Matrix plugin in reverse (LR -> MS), it would accurately replicate the way it was originally recorded? (L = Mid Cardiod, R = Fig-8)

If you have Audio Hijack Pro, you can easily set it up with an MS matrix plug (any plugin you want), so you always monitor your system audio (Finder) through it, even by pressing the spacebar on a file.

Even better, I found the same company makes a program called "SoundSource" which is both cheaper, and sits in the menubar so you can turn it on/off at will. AudioHijack looks awesome, but it seems to be more for beefy podcasting situations, SoundSource is much more audio-production-centric.
I just plopped my Goodhertz MidSide Matrix plugin in there, and I can turn it on/off in 2secs!

I've used this one:

Just adding another option for anybody curious about this topic. Also, it's a free plugin.

Re: MacOS App to Monitor Mid/Side recordings?
I have both SoundSource and Audio Hijack (no longer called Pro), both are very useful tools. However, I may have to consider that sometimes when I'm having DP issues, I might need to disable these apps and their "helpers" when I trouble-shoot.
As for matrixing and dematrixing, theoretically you can convert back & forth with no loss, assuming there is no glitch in the matrix-- e.g., if you hear a the same cat cross from left to right, you should probably re-render. (If you haven't seen The Matrix, do yourself a favor. It's pretty cool. It's a metaphor for mid/side signal processing, I think.)
