No. Direct Hardware Monitoring is a thing of the past It’s a hardware thing, not a software (DP) thing.
On the release day, I loaded some older projects from DP 8 and 9, and found I was able to pick up where I left off on these projects, other than doing something with plugins I don't have any more. But today I noticed that after saving these projects as DP10 project, a couple of glitches came up. Specifically, there were one or two tracks that no longer played back. They were enabled, had valid inputs and outputs, and all that, and the soundbites could be auditioned. The only indication of anything unusual was in the meter bridge where the meter block was shaded in, suggesting an incomplete signal path.
I was unable to find any reason these would not play, and I'm pretty sure they played fine when I first loaded the projects. Simply making a duplicate of the tracks in question, and deleting the originals solved the problem. I guess there are some differences between DP8/9 and DP 10 project formats that don't translate perfectly.

This disappointing - though I'm not sure why it's more of a hardware thing than a software thing. The new AVB interfaces certainly have the hardware to perform direct monitoring, if their drivers and so forth allowed control...

I've been wanting that for years. That and aux faders in the mixer like in Pro Tools (both full-size pop-up ones and mini ones). PT gets a bad rap from some folks around here, but after being "forced" to work on it for a big project for a couple of years, I like it (though I hate the subscription model).
Is it really needed? Simply press Shift-Ctrl-Option-S. No matter which window is the active one: You get instant solo.
Set the command to a more comfortable shortcut and it's even quicker than mousing around to press buttons.
And if you use the Solo Front-Most window preference, you get many different states of solo, all with one shortcut.

FWIW, I NEVER was able to get 9.52 to behave. My older projects seem to be working OK. Maybe that has something to do with 9.52 as well?
Worked all day on 10... there are some issues. If you want to treat it just like 9.52 it’s stable. The GUI sizing is in standard Apple steps. Percentages. The closest for Raven is 150% for 24ch. Not perfect but 90% better and usable. Banking works perfect and colors and names really help.
The big Raven Mixer is hosed on 10. VCA’s work as advertised but try to move one in a separate mixer window even if it’s not assigned it's a repeatable crash. The show/hide over Mackie Control is not implemented but the banking works so well I don’t care.
Raven won’t open in DP10 so the workaround is open Raven in 9.52 first. The clips window is a bit wonky. Not as easy or refined as the Machine NI or Ableton way of doing clips based DAW. The rest of the program, for the most part, is under the hood. It is definitely a major Upgrade.
One way to handle automation is from the tracks window. But the best way is just select that section from the drop down window when needed. It moves the inserts up but at that point, you probably don’t need them and either state it’s only one click away or a quick key. I made a batch command for it. I love DP10. Great job MOTU...
Pics show BC Raven mixer state using Window Sets in DP10. Bottom line I’m still a Raven fan...

The good news is, I reinstalled DP9.52 and the project opened right up with no issues as before.
Yes, I was so excited about the release, I forgot to change the 9.52 name before 10 overwrote it (doh). I'll mess around a bit more to see if there is an old plugin or something that could be the culprit. Since it's a song I originally started in 7.24 with elements likely added over many updates, who knows.

Dunno. MOTU told me that going forward their AVB I/O's won't support Direct Monitoring. Actually, DP still supports DM if you have an older non-AVB MOTU I/O (I can't recall if they had to be PCI I/Os). I held on to my 424 and 2408mk3 for a very long time for this reason.
I can confirm that my old 828mk3 does support it pretty well too. Such a shame, it's a nice feature that is increasingly well supported on Windows machines by various interface manufacturers. Good integration is a really big differentiating factor.
I guess that means I either need to stick with the older range of CueMix interfaces when my 828mk3 eventually bites the dust, or give up direct hardware monitoring. It's such a vital feature though for good workflow.
Been holding out (deliberately but also due to financial complications) on upgrading to AVB from my trusty 24I/O / PCI-424 setup. Hoping that DHP will somehow be added as part of a FW update.
Someone from MOTU said very-early on in the GS thread that it may happen at some point in the future, but that it would take a bunch of coding work. Not heard anything further on this since then, and that was probably 3 years ago.
My info from MOTU was from a year ago m‘be....? They didn’t say DHP wasn’t possible, just not forthcoming.
Direct Hardware Playtrough capability was a nice perk for DP users for sure. Ironically, I’m guessing DP’s userbase must be too small to to make it a priority for MOTU.
For a long time I used an Apogee Ensemble, connected via light pipe to my 2408mk3, as an ADC so I could still acess DHP. It got old after a few years, but you could always do that.
That's a thought, dix, but I've "only" got the three 24I/O units, which don't have digital inputs of any description.
I'd have to buy an old model that does, and it'd have to be USB 'cause I won't have a spare PCI slot after the AVB upgrade (going to use an AVB-capable ethernet card 'cause no TB on my 2012 Mac).

Guitar Gaz, which Amplidood themes did you get working in DP10 with that plist edit?
thx
A moot point ! My customised version of Mellow but updated by me for 5K displays (it means providing new .png files which in effect are bigger in size for the 5K) - it took a bit of work by me and is not in the original file from Andy - he will have to update his own Themes.
You can take an existing DP10 Theme and customise that and see how it differs from the bought Themes.
My communication to this site on this Retina 5K conversion is below and an offer to Andy - to which there has been no response or request for my work on his Theme :
Guitar Gaz wrote:Andy - I have overhauled Mellow and converted all the png's for Retina - it took ages and no wonder you are reluctant to do all your themes. Usually I converted themes based on docking the Control Panel in the Consolidated Window at Full Toolbar Height and didn't bother with all the other permutations.
Anyway - Mellow is done - if you want it let me know and I can email it to you or something in case you want to continue distributing it (or use it yourself). I don't want anything for this although in time I could have a go at some other of your Themes if you approve. I only have Mellow so have nothing else to work with so you would have to let me have any other Themes - up to you as I would not work on them immediately. But the offer is there as thanks for the inspiration of your Themes work.
Also if anyone wants Mellow for DP9 I think you should be the one to distribute. So let me know - and thanks again.
Having largely moved to Studio One Pro I have not done any other Themes work other than my own 5K ready personal Themes which I am not offering to others unless Andy wanted some help. Having heard nothing from him I assume he doesn't want my converted version of his own Theme (which I have offered for free) - but he needs to do a fair bit of work on his own Themes before sales start again. I have done a lot of the leg work but its up to him and I am not going to provide an edited version of his own Theme to others for free or without his permission.
Liking the look of DP10 I may well switch back to it for some of my recording and use Studio One for other aspects of the process - so I may dabble again with Themes.
