Crackly sound when using Multimode Filter
Dp 2.72, OS9.
Processed a resonant drone from my VK module using this, and recorded it onto a mono audio track, but the result is rather crackly and noisy.
My other audio tracks dont seem to suffer this when using other plug-ins.
Is it something about the nature of the plug-in - some kind of digital artefact, or have I perhaps used too much resonance or too wide a sweep or something?
Very annoying as I like this plug-in very much

I refer the Honourable Gentleman to the anwser I gave a moment ago...G4-upgraded G3, DP2.72, Korg 1212 card, Fostex 8-channel AD/DA converter, Korg DW8000, Novation Basstation, Kork M1rEX, Vintage Keys Plus, Akai S2000, Transcendent 2000 monosynth, Presonus ACP8 8-channel comp/gate, Behringer Multicom, Zoom and Yamaha external FX and a few other bits and pieces!

I wondered if that was the reason.
I have to say, much as I like the plug-in, you have to edit as the presets are EXTREME to say the least.
I was also experimenting with using rhythmic MIDI notes to trigger it from the side chain, but again, it just seemed to go crazy.
Ah wekk, I'll just have to re-record the part - not too much of a problem actually as I did a bit of editing (remember tha?) of the patch parameters and got a much better "drone" -type patch that way, so all to the good as they say.
Cheers

I think the guys at MOTU must just party hard taking class A drugs and listening to techno! A potentially libelous suggestion methinks Alpha!!
True tho - most of the plug-in presets are extreme - check some of the reverb tails on eVerb for instance, and not o mention Sonic Modulator!! Speaker-blowing stuff sometimes.
Ive jigged about with Multimode settings, and it actually seems to be a digital artifact of some kind, contrary to my initial thoughts. Ive re-recorded it (with a better resonant drone in fact!), and some of the crackles are still there - they now sound less like extreme setting s and more like jitter problems - except as far as I know I dont HAVE any jitter problems.
And another thing - while working on this project yesterday, I experienced a fatal error - losing the entire arrangement - apparently I overloaded the play buffer somehow - ouch!!!
All the soundbites were still in the audio file accompanying the project, and it took me several hours to go through them all and retrieve the relevant bits of audio from about a hundred soundbites (of course, all the edits and stuff are there too!!).
Have to say, the arrangement now sounds better, but ive got to re-work all the automation data as that was lost with the project when it crashed.

Do me a favor and try and see if you get some crackling when using the Apple Matrix Reverb... I'm having some today and it's the first time I've used this plug since upgrading to 10.4.4 and I remember some Core Audio tweaks were done in this upgrade. I'm wondering...

Hi James. I dont have the Apple Matrix Reverb sadly. Im still on OS9 with a (compared the G5's) rather weedy G4-upgraded G3.
Sorry!
Sorry!
