Trouble getting audio to my 2408 mkII

Post by countrokula »

Hey there, I recently upgraded my whole setup with the 24IO and 2 2408 mkII's.
We have one of the 2408's modded from Black Lion, and 2 regular mkII's. I'm running Mac Pro OS 10.6.8 with a Soundcraft 600 series 24 channel, 8 group and 16 channel summing console.
My routing for the pcie card is 24IO slot one, Black Lion slot 2, 2408 slot 3.

When I connected all the units, they were recognized, and fell in line in my default IO in Protools. The 24IO works flawlessly, The BLA is great. However, I'm not getting any signal from my 2408 in slot 3. I noticed that when I sent my main outputs to the outputs of the 2408, it didn't appear to be getting any signal.
I fiddled with the audio wire, and when I pushed it in, it gave me the crazy loud white noise. Sorry for the long drawn out, I guess I'm just wondering if there is a firmware or driver I need to look for. I've already gotten the update package from motu.

Thanks for any info.

Why don't you swap the 2408 units with each other, maybe it's a slot 3 issue.

Also, try getting an audio input back out using CueMix, thus bypassing your DAW.

I did, I figured out that it is a slot 3 and 4 issue. Neither one is passing audio, but does get recognized. Sounds like this is something that happens. Do you know of the fix?

So, I think the actual issue is Pro tools 10 only allows 32 simultaneous IO's. I'm totally unfamiliar with Cuemix, but can it act as my playback and monitoring while I edit and work in Protools?

Pro Tools is 32 IO when using 3rd party interface. For more you need their hardware.

No, you can't play from CueMix. Where would you store the wav? CueMix is not a DAW, it's just a digital mixer. Of course you can use the MOTU as your interface, and playback or record up to 32 channels simultaneously with Pro Tools.

I'm now in a similar situation. I've been running a 24io and someone gave me a 2408 MK3 and I'd like to add it to have an additional 8 ins/outs. I'm able to get both units to work but protools sees "Analog 1" on both units simultaneously. So if I have a kick drum sent to output Analog-1 it sends it to the output of the 24io and the 2408. So I'd like to make the 2408 ins/outs 25-32.

Can you help me configure this?

Thanks,
Eddie
