Where did DP control go to?

Post by TinenTech »

I got a new iPad for Christmas, and I went to download all the apps that I’ve had on my iPhone. In the App Store, under previously purchased, the icon for DP control, the app that lets you remotely control Digital Performer from the iPhone, was grayed out. When I did a search in the Apple App Store for DP control, it doesn’t show up. There’s an app called pro control, but it’s not the same. I looked on the MOTU website, and they still have pages supporting it, but where can I download the app to my iPad now?

Has it just disappeared?

It was working fine from my iPhone…
MacBook Pro 9,1 (mid-2012 Core i7 2.3 GHz 4 GB RAM), OSX 10.11.3, Newertech Voyager SATA drive dock
MOTU: DP 9.02, Traveler Mk 1, 896 MkIII Hybrid, MIDI Express XT
Alesis AI3 optical interface, QS8, QS7, DM Pro, DM5, QSR
Mackie Controller and Extender (original MIDI)
Pro Tools 12

DP Control is basically abandonware. It was never updated to 64 bit for compatibility with iOS 11 and 12, so it's not available. Also, I'm not sure it was ever possible to run it on an iPad, just phones. What version of iOS is on your phone?

It’s usually on the App Store as an iPhone app. If you search for iphone apps, it will probably show up. Ive seen it there recently. But it hasn’t worked for me since iOS 5 or 6. Certainly wont work on a new iPad.

Thank you both.

I’m still clinging to my old iPhone 4S, so that explains it. Guess I have yet another reason to keep clinging to it besides the fact its mic filter can be bypassed by AudioTools. DP Control is a handy app sometimes, especially when I’m out in the studio adjusting a headphone mix, or working alone as a transport remote.

I wish MOTU would update it, or at least update their website to say what happened to it.

It worked most of the time on my 4S. It got a bit flaky on the last iOS update.
