I'd love to see DP be optimized for the Quad G5 (all the DAWs are optimized for 2 processors it seems, but Logic runs noticeably faster on the Quad than DP)

The ability to resize the tracks window (bigger font options)

Pardon me for nitpicking, and by no means am I singling you out, Ernest, but I hear this a lot, and it baffles me. What's not to like? You can set up, say, 20 different screen configurations, or even 5 or 10, and give them keyboard commands. I use the numeric keypads for my window configs. You can use COMMAND-1, 2, 3,... etc., or COMMAND-OPTION-1, 2, 3,...etc., and instantly have any window configuration you want. Switch back and forth at high speed if you're watching something. It's as fast as switching your eyes to different monitors. Your setups can include Consolidated Windows and independent windows all together, or just one or the other--any way you want it. And that's what baffles me. Since you can have anything you want at the touch of a button, what's not to like about the windows in DP?

Just nitpicking, but I must admit that I cannot understand what people want when they say they can't stand DP's windows.

Just nitpicking, but I must admit that I cannot understand what people want when they say they can't stand DP's windows.

Its just personal taste. Some love it. I don`t. However I must admit, I do not use it to the capacity that you do and therefore I must admit that perhaps this is the reason I don`t like it. I have yet to realize its potential.

I`m not saying MOTU should get rid of it. Its a cool feature for some. The way I work, I rather dedicate my entire screen to one window. Less confusing and less adjusting. Perhaps if I had one of those huge Apple screens I would love the new window config?

Well, I do have a 23" Cinema display, and it never feels big enough.

But I've created arrangements with over 300 MIDI tracks on old Macs like the Mac IIsi with a 640 x 480 monitor. I just used the features that MOTU provided, like zoom settings, etc., and while I always wanted more screen, I was always able to do whatever had to be done. Same thing today; and a single window is simply not a problem. I've got settings for those, too!

Simple: more CPU efficiency, stability, better drivers for hardware interfaces

GUI color options would be fun
Also the graphic interfaces of many of the included plug-ins are pretty cheesy compared to much of the competition

Two crazy wishes fom Spikey Horse

1- An option to show the pre fader level of a track in, say, orange instead of green so that if a track is muted or its fader is down its potential level/activity could still be seen. Would this be possible?

With either a global 'show all tracks with pre fader levels' option or on a track by track basis as set from the 'setup' window from the mixer track's automation drop down.

For me this would be helpful especially when working on new ideas playing with different mixes in the early stages. And also when recording automation via the mixer it could come in handy.

2- Click automation! Or rather the ability to mute click 'between x and y' or ' from x until the end of the sequence'.

This is so I can for example record to the click for verse/chorus then play freetime afterwards without stopping playing to turn the click off.

Also the option of returning to a click after a set number of measures - yes that sounds weird but I sometimes record like that.

At the moment I have to use a dedicated MIDI track to play a click sample and drop in and out - but I would prefer to use the same click method every time - I suppose I should just have that set up in my templates and then it would be there every time, it would still mean loading a sampler for every new project though ....

Better plugins. I guess MOTU assumes that most people just buy third party stuff, and we do, but if the included plugs were better, we might be more inclined to use the DP stuff rather than always going for the 3rd party.

They have proven they can do it - the new MasterWorks EQ is awesome - right up there with UAD Cambridge and Sony Oxford, but the other MW stuff and especially the standard stuff is for the most part pretty cornball....granted I'm sure it was great back in the day, but these days they seem like toys. At the very least, they should include the convolution reverb from Symphonic Instrument.

I would also like to see true hardware inserts. As it is, if you want to run a track through an outboard verb, the only thing you can do is use a send and return it to another audio track. I would like to be able to insert hardware in the inserts just like any other plugin....including delay compensation.

I see the new version of PT is doing great thing with regions - combining MIDI and audio into one editable block.

For those who have seen this...don't you think it would be awesome in the sequence editor? It would suit DP down to the ground.

Oh, and I agree - MSI's great 'verb as a DP plugin. Money on this to happen in the next major DP update.

1. A proper import audio file dialog that previews all audio files - not just its own and 16bit WAVs (in a 24 bit session!!?)

2. A proper looping facility in the Waveform editor. Not one that stops everytime you move a marker. ATM its like lucky pot shot "hope i hit the right transient this time". I find it very useful when creating soundbites

3. A Freeze function that works with ReWire

Speaking of Freeze.....how about a REAL freeze function - not the glorified real-time bounce to disk that MOTU calls Freeze in DP. I find DP's Freeze clunky and pretty much useless - all it does is create a new audio track for each frozen track and do a real-time bounce to that new audio track. I can do that myself in the same number of steps.

Yes, non-real-time Freeze. That would be nice.
