Frame by Frame scrolling

Post by ironchef_marc »

I use to be able to scroll frame by frame either with the L and R arrows or + and - buttons but arrows no longer work and + and - moves by small amount of ticks. In fact they seem random, going back and forth I get different ticks amount variation. Looks like a bug to me.

Have you changed computer keyboards by chance? Is it possible that the keyboard is transmitting erratically? I used to have scroll wheel mouse that allowed me to scroll incrementally in numeric fields, including frame by frame, in DP but it died. I haven’t been able to find one since that behaves predictably for this type of operation.

Thinking about this. I actually don't recall ever having this functionality with DP.

How exactly are/were you doing this frame-by-frame scrolling with a keyboard? Are you highlighting frames in the counter and then using + - ?

I’d guess you’d have to be in the movie window and use the arrow keys.

Tried that. Nupe. ....in Quicktime you can do that, but not in DP.

Those bastards! It now that begs the question: or you do it in DP when they used the QuickTime engine? Maybe that’s why the Iron Chef remembers it working before.

This occurred to me too, but he’s currently using DP 9.52 and getting frame scrolling somehow via + -, albeit erratic.

I did not know they changed the movie engine. In any case I`ll ask that feature again. Kind of crucial for film scoring.

My best guess is that Apple wanted a licensing agreement. The really bad part for me is that i can't export referenced movies, which take up a lot less disk space and are much easier to deal with in post.

Finale also did away COMPLETELY with their movie window, which may also be an indication of a licensing issue with Apple (again, I'm speculating). :unicorn:

Still, I bet MOTU could make numeric fields incrementally changeable if they were so inclined. It would be mighty handy, not just for frame scrolling, but for a lot of other things too.
