mk3 ultralite Firewire only - Mojave
Hi there,
May I ask if you guys know whether a Motu Ultralite mk3 Firewire only will work under the upcoming mac OSX mojave? I am afraid Mojave will eventually render my mk3 useless.
Ideas?
thanks

In other words: There's a slight chance that I'll luckily get away this time sticking to my mk3 even on Mojave?
Re: mk3 ultralite Firewire only - Mojave
Why are you so eager to upgrade to Mojave? If it is because you are getting a new computer, then I understand. If not, why not just sit back and wait a bit? If you follow these forums regularly you'll probably be one of the first to know the pitfalls and advantages of the upgrade process.waine wrote:In other words: There's a slight chance that I'll luckily get away this time sticking to my mk3 even on Mojave?

In other words, there’s an excellent chance that it’s going to work but I agree with Cuttime. What’s your hurry? MOTU never comments on these issues before the new OS has been released (September 24, 2018). If a new driver is needed, they will release one.cuttime wrote:Why are you so eager to upgrade to Mojave? Mojave acting weird. I do have a high Sierra drive but I thought I would try Mojave out. (I really like dark mode) The OS shows audio being inputed and outputs are enabled but for some reason there is no audio. everything is exactly the same as when I'm on High Sierra.

Re: mk3 ultralite Firewire only - Mojave
Have you solved the issue? Did you get audio working with UltraLite mk3 and Mojave?
I have the same interface and I cannot test it. If it does not work then I will be in trouble.
Actually a general question- has any early Mojave user gotten any Firewire device to work that requires v1.6.73220 | Jul. 31, 2017 Motu Audio driver?
Maybe a new thread with that general question would be appropriate.
Thanks and respect.

Re: mk3 ultralite Firewire only - Mojave
I asked MOTU tech support about Mojave and Ultralite mk3 Firewire compatibility. My question was- has Motu tested this in reality. The answer was that they have tried it out and this combo works, the interface is seen by MacOS and there is audio in/out. They also emphasized that this info is not an official statement. Good news anyway.

Re: mk3 ultralite Firewire only - Mojave
I highly recommend keeping a high sierra drive. I still can't seem to get audio to work completely. the system is recognized. Both MK3s show up in audio MIDI setup and all graphical indicators on the motu units and the cuemix app (as well as the input indicator in system preferences) show that an audio signal is being received by the computer. Just not getting to the output. Also all audio coming from the computer itself like a youtube video or iTunes is played through the monitors. However when I open any DAW (I tried multiple) the audio signal from any of the inputs on the motu units do not make it into the DAW. The settings are all the same and the drivers are installed. I can restart on the high sierra drive and everything runs fine. Boot back to Mojave drive and situation is back to weird town.papageno wrote:Have you solved the issue? Re: mk3 ultralite Firewire only - Mojave
Here is my experience. Updated from 10.13.6 to 10.14. Everything seemed to work smoothly... until I thought there is no audio coming in.
I plugged a mic to input 1 of my UL mk3 FW and usually when I looked at TRACKS tab, there was a blue bar in level column showing the audio level. The bar was showing nothing.
At the same time I saw audio indication on mk3 display, in AND out.
I opened Audio Monitor in DP and saw the audio in level changing. Same in Meter Bridge.
Then I recorded audio to a track successfully.
The question is- why don't I see any input in Tracks tab Level column? I am 100% sure that before updating to 10.14 the blue level indication was there...
If this is the only glitch then I can live with it.

Re: mk3 ultralite Firewire only - Mojave
Same problem here.
I can listen to some inputs with cuemix but not with ableton.
My outputs though are running fine except 7/8 i guess.
Anyone has an idea how to fix this?

Re: mk3 ultralite Firewire only - Mojave
I know this is a long time ago now and you may have moved on and found a solution to this problem.
Can anyone tell me if an Ultralite-Mk3 Firewire does work ok with Mojave? Did it work in the end - did MOTU finally release a new driver that I can't find?
I need to get into MAC OS 10.14.6 so I can get the latest update of FCP X (and Logic also I believe), but I don't have the money for a new interface right now.
Any thoughts much appreciated.

Re: mk3 ultralite Firewire only - Mojave
Looks like support ends at 10.13, but that doesn't necessarily mean it won't work under 10.14. Hopefully, others will chime in here. If not, is there any way you can set up a second boot drive to experiment with?

Re: mk3 ultralite Firewire only - Mojave
Thanks for the reply. Yes I will look into that and see what can be done. Or maybe it's just time to ditch the firewire Mk3 and get something new!

Re: mk3 ultralite Firewire only - Mojave
My 828mk2 worked great under Mojave I dont see why the newer Ultralite mk3 wouldn't either, they use the same driver.
