The New PCI Express Card for MAC Quad???
Hi everyone, i'm new in this forum, so please sorry for my comentary and questions, i have spoke with the MOTU tech support several time and they told me that maybe for next month, the new PCI Express Card will get out, but it depends of the calls they receive, they would try to make the upgrade for those that have the PCI 424 allready with the PCI Express by sending the card and Aprox. $99.00 Dollars on change for the new one, obviosly for those that have change and buy a MAC G5 Quad, like i did. Now i'm waiting for that because i allready use to have a G5 Dual 1.8 and i sell it for the new one, that it's my bad, i need to wait now.... (this is just a coment of heard of my call) i think we need to keep traking them for this, if not we will be waiting a lot...
Second, did someone now wish could be the best hardware interface with sampling rates over 96 with light pipe with the best converters ?
I Dont know maybe Apogee??
I use a 2408mk3 at 96, but only have 12 at 96 and i need 32 channels at 96 or better.
I also have 828, but the same, because of the technology, only 4 channels at 96 via light pipe...
I know that the 192 it's up to 196Khz, but i'm worry about the Light pipe converters, the MOTU tech guy told me that it's basicly the same converters used on all models, 828mk2, 2408mk3 , etc....
PLEASE HELP!!!!

Is there anyone from MOTU on unicornation?
Been watching this (Mac/PCIe/MOTU/UAD) space since the quad mac came out. I've been wanting to get a 2408mk3 with PCIe and new quad mac! want pci-e to pci for uads also - i aint paying $2k for a magma!!!! Probably worth mentioning is the new intel mac books with PCIe - check the power of these mothers! - maybe one of these would "do" most people if you can interface your 192/24ii/o/2408/uad with these babies?
Need to get people requesting these interfaces - hopefully via some official MOTU contact through the forum!
Now awaiting to see what happens at NAMM!!
Have a cup of tea - good days ahead!

Wow. Thanks EDR. You were able to extract more information from MOTU than the rest of the community combined.
...are we reading this correctly:
MOTU Tech Support told you that there will be an upgrade path in about a month, depending on how many calls they get, for around $100 for current 424 owners. Is that right?
Re 192k i/o: Can't go wrong w Apogee, but once the MOTU PCIe cards are available then the MOTU HD units (that also use the 424s) should be considered too I would think.

I maintain that all this is going to be sorted out in a little more than a week when the NAMM show starts. I would imagine MOTU will make some sort of announcement. I honestly doubt though that they're going to make decisions based on telephone inquiries.

Similar to MOTU's recent announcement regarding Intel Mac FireWire & USB/USB 2 drivers, all official announcements including compatibility, new versions, new products, upgrades, cross-grades, etc. are posted to our website.

Yeah, for sure, i been four years using MOTU, and they told me that by phone, if it's something that it's a lie to manage the angry and dependent customer, i maybe understand, but i think they would not be lying on that, besides they need to upgrade the card anyways because of the grow and change of tecnology, remember not only mac it's changing that tecnology on PCI ports, the boards manufacturers are changing that because of the video card and other great speedy aplications, i would even recomend them to change the ports of the card to firewire 800 instead of 400's. but that's another thing and a new brand desing interface at all models, 2408, 828, etc...
That is the reason of my question on my first post, so i ask now, Did i need to be on MOTU because i want better performance and capabilities from a new computer? because the Quad is just better for best.. but i'm stock because of all manufacturers and the time that get's the tecnnology to grow, and i realize that i dont want to spend more money on a trade mark and compromise the quality and the time for my work, if i'm going to buy something else, need to be just at the rate of my new computer. Manage, multitask, etc...
Today i went to COMP USA, to see the status of my computer, the Dual 1.8 Mac G5, the manager we just make friends because i went there for the first two week all the days ... you may imagine... hi, yes it's me again... did you fix my computer??? well anyways, he told me that the new computers MAC base with the Intel Chipsets are having problems to run specific programs like photo shop, so i dont believe that i'm going to wait until Intel Fu*$(# up the essence of state of art of an Apple. Be carefull and dont get me wrong, my main work it's computer programing and LAN, Networks and all that world, i'm just want to tell every one to be carefull and don't make any mistake like i allready do. Don't think because it's Intel it's better... i work with both....

Nothing against CompUSA, but I would be hesitant to listen to any advice having to do with the Macintosh platform from someone who works there. In my experience the people there have a very surface-level knowledge when it comes to Apple products.Eternal Dream Records wrote:Today i went to COMP USA, to see the status of my computer, the Dual 1.8 Mac G5, the manager we just make friends because i went there for the first two week all the days ... you may imagine... hi, yes it's me again... did you fix my computer??? well anyways, he told me that the new computers MAC base with the Intel Chipsets are having problems to run specific programs like photo shop....

Yes. Hopefully we'll get some clarity next week. I now agree that MOTU will probably not drop PCI, but I still say it's very possible MOTU will wait until Intel PowerMacs ship to make a PCIe card available. I think those machines are going to be a very different animal and having to go through the whole swap-o thing yet again would be silly.James Steele wrote:I maintain that all this is going to be sorted out in a little more than a week when the NAMM show starts. [disclaimer: hope i'm wrong. i'd love to have a $100 pcie card in a month as edr has claimed.]

PCIe is PCIe the only diff is the driver that tells it how to communicate with the processor and OS. Notice the the current PCI-424 doesnt have a mac version and a PC version of the SAME card, just the driver you install on your computer to make it work.
I see no reason for MOTU to wait......

While the Apogee AD-16X/DA-16X support 192, Apogee does not support 192kHz on Mac (or PC), with the current X-Firewire card.
Scroll to page 23 in this PDF manual for the X-Firewire
So, if you want to do 32 channels at 192, start considering something other than Firewire if you're using Apogee.
