Restart required after sleep with 1248??

Have a 1248, latest drivers and High Sierra. After wake from sleep or if I hot plug interface it is seen by the os and the web app is active BUT I only get os audio output after I restart. The os audio signal is not present in any of the cuemix/webapp meters either which leads me to believe core audio and the driver are not really talking to each other. Anyone else see this or have solution? This isn't new, has always been this way afaik. Thanks.

sudo killall coreaudiod

does the trick for now.
