Robb Report April '18
OK, for you newbies, or just folks who failed to give a flying f**k the previous 123 times I've done this, I keep a text file open while I work in DP, jotting down thoughts and observations, questions and ruminations, etcetera etcetera. Every so often, I spew this crap onto this forum, hoping to garner debate and/or discussion (but generally resulting in heads shaking in stunned disbelief). As usual, no attempt has been made to check this stuff for spelling, grammar, actual facts, or stuff that that could've been easily looked up in the damned manual.
-----------
OK, I start a project, and DP throws up a message: “DP Has Encountered an Error. Internal Error, a connection was formed that created a feedback loop.” OK, thanks Motu, but this is a big project. How about a hint as to where I might find this connection.
Here’s a thing: Select a few tracks in the Track Window (presumably but not necessarily related). Select a menu item called, say, “Aux These f•••ers” (ATF). This would create an Aux Track and assign alll the selected tracks to it. You’d need to deal with busses, perhaps give ‘em a choice between an existing Bus or create a new one (then name it, blah blah...it’s never easy....).
There oughta be a key combo to toggle Inout Quantize on and off, maybe with a corresponding tool in the Tool Pallette.
So I got me a patch change in a MIDI track, DP has all the patch lists for each bank, and I just gosh darn know there’s a marimba sound in one of these banks that might work in this spot. So I click on the Patch Change, it brings up sub menus for all the banks, but....wouldn’t it be just aces if I could do a text search? I mean, Gee Willikers, you guys....
I got 2 Stereo audio trracks in a sequence/chunk (and c’mon guys, choose a terminology here: Sequence, Chunk, whatizzit?), anyways, I have 2 stereo audio tracks in a sequence, each with some audio data and some plugins, maybe some effects sends assigned, and I just wanna select ‘em, hit “copy”, switch to another sequence in the same project, and hit “paste”, resulting in those 2 tracks and all their processing appearing in the other sequence. Why wasn’t this fixed in, like, 1997? And this goes double for track folders.
Copy To Clipping Window: User should be able to create a new clipping window from this submenu, no?
You’re almost there! Yup, it’s getting close, closer....by maybe the next semi-major build, you’ll be allowing us to Normalize Soundbites, even entire regions, without having to open the Waveform Editor! Yeah, it’s just about there, nothing really holding you back, the Menu Option is already legible, just Grayed Out. So Un-Gray That Puppy, already! You know you want to....
Applying a Plugin to a selection, Sequence Editor: This brings up the Plug’s controls, plus values for Pre- and Post-roll. How about a button here to set Pre- and Post- to the selection bounds? Or maybe Remember Times? Or both? (and yeah, Remember Times...pretty hot tech back in the day. Time for a re-think on that one, no?)
When I have a selection of some controller data in the MIDI Editor, and I open the track up in the Edit List, those same controller events shoiuld be hilighted in that window as well.
Here’s another one I may’ve mentioned previously: I’m looking at the Tracks window - maybe I just recorded something - and I want to view whatever it is, Audio, MIDI, etc. What would be REALLY HELPFUL would be the ability to double click on that section in the Track window, with maybe a modifier key or combo, and open up just That Track on That Section with the appropriate DP editor window. Simple as that. Currently, it’ll open up the track in a new window in the consolidated, along with whatever track that editor had open recently. Sometimes, that’s what you want. Generally, I want to see Just That Track in it’s Editor, and nothing else.
Related to that: I’m in the Sequence Editor, and I want to see just a particular track in said editor. I’ve got the Track Selector in a tab in the Sidebar, but...wouldn’t it be cool to just hit a button, or a right-click menu item or whatevcer, and show just that track in the Seq editor?
Hey! You CAN Quantize Markers! No, really, it’s right there in the Quantize box! Damn! I’ve been asking for this for a while, and Lo and Behold, there it is! Whatta country! Probably been there for, like, years, and I never noticed it, and no one had the heart to tell that poor sap who writes those Report thingies, ‘cause, you know, he’s kinda, ummm...well, it’s just sad, really....
That said, I’d still like to see Markers included in the Input Quantize box....
When you click on an insert to select a plug-in, a box comes up - it lists all the availabe plugs by various categories, including All and Recent. Suggest another category here, Favorites.

Rob, Some of your wishes are already doable!
I'm on my stupid iPad, so I really don't feel like using the quotations properly.
Clippings, while not as convenient for this, would get you there too.
The same is true for at least the mixer and GE with the proper shortcuts (not infront of DP now).
Or is it the other way around?
The previous method I mentioned above would also work for this, as long as you had some selection.
I did this a few months ago, and if I right-click on an insert, I get all my personalized categories by function as well as my favourites. This bypasses the plug-in chooser, so it's really convenient. It took me a few hours to do it, since I went through my humongous plug-in list one by one. Some of them I didn't even know what they were. Now I'm REALLY gald I spent those hours sorting all this out
You strike me as someone who knows what he is doing, so apologies in advance if I misunderstood some of your requests.

Not as simple as copy/paste, but at least you can simply open both sequences (source and target) in the TO window via the Chunks window. Grab the track or tracks you want to copy from the source TO and drag them to the left part of the 2nd TO window. Voilá!I got 2 Stereo audio trracks in a sequence/chunk (and c’mon guys, choose a terminology here: Sequence, Chunk, whatizzit?), anyways, I have 2 stereo audio tracks in a sequence, each with some audio data and some plugins, maybe some effects sends assigned, and I just wanna select ‘em, hit “copy”, switch to another sequence in the same project, and hit “paste”, resulting in those 2 tracks and all their processing appearing in the other sequence. You can make a selection anywhere, i.e., the TO window. Pressing option-command-r will open the SE with only those tracks, zoomed in to the extent of the selection. This shortcut may not be the default. I think I changed it, so if it doesn't work, look for it in the Commands window. Option-click a track name in the Track Selector. DP will show only the clicked track. Command-click does the opposite: it will show ALL tracks except the one you clicked (careful with this if you have a huge template!)Related to that: I’m in the Sequence Editor, and I want to see just a particular track in said editor. You can add a Favourites category. You can add as many as you want, and sort your plugins anyway you want., i.e. by manufacturer, function, category, etc. When you click on an insert to select a plug-in, a box comes up - it lists all the availabe plugs by various categories, including All and Recent. Suggest another category here, Favorites.

Track copying and transfer via drag & drop
You can drag and drop a Track Overview selection into the Track List (on the left side of the Tracks window). Doing so creates a new track (or tracks) at the bottom of the list.
For example, you can make a selection in the Track Overview of a source sequence and then drag and drop it into the Track List of a completely different destination sequence. When doing so, not only is the data transferred, but the tracks that contain the data are copied, too, along with all their settings (including effects plug-ins).
Isn't that what you want? The trick is not to drag the track itself but all the stuff in it on the Track or Sequence window into the destination Track window. The track name and settings follow.
On the difference between a sequence and a chunk, this was sort of cleared up in a recent update to the manual. Chunks are things you can use to combine into other things, or move around. Sequence is one type of chunk along with Song or V-Rack. At least it no longer describes a V-Rack as a sequence that has all the features of a sequence except those that make it a sequence.

Check out the manual chapter on Chunks. There are 3 types of Chunks: Sequence Chunk, V-Rack Chunk and Song Chunk. The nomenclature has been the same for as long as I remember. If one writes Chunk meaning Sequence Chunk you risk being misunderstood. And, yes, it can be confusing.Robb Scott wrote: I got 2 Stereo audio trracks in a sequence/chunk (and c’mon guys, choose a terminology here: Sequence, Chunk, whatizzit?.

Lotta good content here, and thanks folks...will look everything over more painstakingly with some time, but will mention that that "Favorites" Category in the Effects list is, of course, quite doable...one of those "as soon as I hit Send, I got ta thinkin'..." kinda deals. Sometimes you're Lisa, and sometimes you're just so Homer...

It can be done, although it's not really "drag and drop" simple. It's a PITA to reorder or reorganize and takes a lot of time keeping it up to date as loads of new plugins come along. I'd like to see it updated.Robb Scott wrote:"Favorites" Category in the Effects list is, of course, quite doable
