I manage to hit the (unknown) hot key pattern for tempo field entry frequently, and don't notice the window blank with a blinking cursor while nothing else responds...for awhile. God help me if I don't know what the tempo was, and don't have tracks and markers locked.

Re: MAKE IT STOP!!!!
Not to worry. Tempo changes, even tempo-slider changes, are included in the undo history. ...which gives me an idea. Next time this happens, as I described earlier, I’ma wiggle the slider and see if I get enterable data in the tempo field, and then Undo itEMRR wrote:I manage to hit the (unknown) hot key pattern for tempo field entry frequently, and don't notice the window blank with a blinking cursor while nothing else responds...for awhile. Re: MAKE IT STOP!!!!
I tried “the wiggle.” Maybe I’m wiggling the wrong thing? Must be force of habit.

Thanks for that!MIDI Life Crisis wrote:I tried “the wiggle.” Maybe I’m wiggling the wrong thing? Must be force of habit.
I'm laughing heartily.
Made my day.
I just figured out the solution to my version of the problem.
In my case, I'm occasionally using the tap tempo key, (backward slash) to set tempos.
I tap in the new tempo and it is displayed
Then I hit the spacebar to play and I am sent in to the dreaded bonk mode.
The tempo display shows a vertical line, but no number
Any keys pressed result in just the bonk sound...
Seems like no exit.
I have been burned by this many times.
I just realized that the "duh" is that you have to hit enter after tapping tempo, even though the new number is displayed.
If you don't, you will be in zombie bonk no tempo land with 99% of your keys unresponsive.
In my case, the solution is to go back to the only remaining responsive key... the tap tempo key.
Tap something in.
Hit enter.
You should be back to normal DP.
Then hit undo to get back to your original tempo.
Maybe the last paragraph will help those who are not usually using the tap tempo key and are stuck in zombie bonk land.
All is well

Re: MAKE IT STOP!!!!
That sounds 100% accurate, Waterstrum. If you don’t hit enter and leave the field, you’re toast. Force quit and loose your work from the last save. And since it wasn’t an official crash there’s no way to report to MOTU except a call or tech link. I’ll send one in today. Maybe if some of you guys do the same they’ll fix it. It’s amazing how something so small can bring down a giant. From David and Goliath to God’s earphones.

Re: MAKE IT STOP!!!!
Had a related "fun" 20 minutes yesterday... opened a project in which I am finalizing the mix. All of a sudden, a bunch of tracks are misaligned. Restart, etc, but problem persists.
Turns out I inadvertently managed to change the song tempo; once reset to the proper tempo, as determined from an earlier saved version of the project, all was again well. Whew!
This was a good reminder to set the tempo in the Conductor Track (like I usually do), where it can easily be changed, but not by mistake!

Re: MAKE IT STOP!!!!
Just to be sure...
Until MOTU fixes the "bug"...
There is a way to escape the unresponsive keyboard.
Go back to the only remaining responsive key... the tap tempo key.
Tap any tempo in.
Hit enter.
You should be back to normal DP.
Then hit undo to get back to your original tempo.
This can save you from force quit and embarrassment in live sessions.

Re: MAKE IT STOP!!!!
I didn’t use the tap tempo but was entering data in the slider value box. Re-entering the box wouldn’t work.

Re: MAKE IT STOP!!!!
Hey MLC...
Just looked at your problem and for me the solution was still the tap tempo key... backward slash in my mappings. (\)
My test was...
1) typing a number in the tempo slider window value box
2) hitting spacebar to play the sequence, but with the resultant bonking keys... no input available
3) tapping in any tempo on the "\" key. A friendly number should appear in the slider window.
4) hit enter
5) DP is now back, but with the new tempo
6) hit undo and I'm returned to the previous tempo.
Check it out and let me know.

Re: MAKE IT STOP!!!!
I remapped that key to RECORD. I wonder if that could solve the problem (changing it to the default?) I don't think I have the tap tempo feature enabled as my internal metronome os pretty good. I'll play with that when things slow down a bit. Thanks, man!

A little late to the party...the ol' tempo window transport hijack. Took me a few weeks until I realized I had been inadvertently activating the Tempo Slider. Now, that's the first place I look when DP is unresponsive.MIDI Life Crisis wrote:I think it's related to leaving a data entry window before confirming the data, which is what i think happened here.
Does anyone remember when DP had very useful buttons that would allow you to incrementally increase or decrease the tempo? I miss those greatly. Much easier to dial in the exact tempo than utilizing a tiny slider effect.

I still miss the Quicktime export to a referenced movie. Now movie bounces are all full rez and take longer to create. Really a PITA but it's the only game in town... lol
