MAKE IT STOP!!!!

Post by MIDI Life Crisis »

This is a new issue for me. I was changing tempo with the slider (which could be bigger, but I so rarely use it) anyway... DP would not respond to any commands. I was playing back a simple piano part at the time (via MachFive). Neither the trackpad (MT2) nor the wired QWERTY Apple kbd had any effect in terms of stopping the sequence. I could still click in the Tempo Slider window and enter data, but that was it! I had to force quit to end playback.

I think it's related to leaving a data entry window before confirming the data, which is what i think happened here. I was in another window after relaunching and did the same thing. The response (or lack thereof) from DP resumed after I went back into the window (conductor track in this instance) but this time it allowed me to re-enter the window and confirm the entry. I'm on the fence as to whether or not I should bother reporting it to MOTU as possible bug. It's not exactly user error, but once you leave a window and click elsewhere w/o confirming an entry, I would expect a warning dialogue box to ask for a confirmation. That's not happening, at least not consistently throughout the application.

Was there a value in the tempo field? I've lost control of DP (although never while playing) when I can't get that field's tempo data entered. Occasionally I have a hard time entering tempo data while in slider-mode. I'll select the field, type in a number, but can't get Return or Enter or anything to allow me to enter the number. They just clear the field and I can't do anything else in DP. If I had been in Play when this happened I wouldn't have been able to stop.

It happens so rarely I haven't been able figure out what I did each time to fix it. I just keep clicking, typing tempo data and Entering and some combo therein enters the data and I move on....

Sounds like what I experienced. I wonder if MOTU still monitors this site or if that was MacgicD's domain?

That has happened to me. I think it was the Change Tempo window and it somehow got hidden behind a floating plugin window, so I didn't know it was still open. - or somethin

I was wondering that myself. Also, whether any other key personnel at MOTU are also moving on.

There are a couple of other MOTU folks that check in here, but their names elude me at the moment. I think you are far more likely to find them on some site that has something to do with blue lowercase letters, or thumbs, or something like that.

Hey MLC...

You may or may not be crazy.
I have experienced the same problem on various occasions.
For me, I think it was when tapping tempo on the assigned tap tempo key.
Suddenly there is no way to get out.
All key taps result in a bonk sound.
Major bummer.

Beyond that, I gotta say that I am so grateful for you and your kind knowledge offered here.
