Successful AAF/OMF imports DP 9.5

OMF imports have basically worked in DP for a while. I’ve been challenged by the AAF import standard for some time. I recently took the plunge and bought (or renting monthly) Pro Tools. Here are some EXPORT settings from Pro Tools (and probably Avid) which seem to deliver good results in DP 9.5. I’m posting to help anyone else who’s been struggling. This is a cut and paste of an email I sent to myself, so I wouldn’t forget. If you have info which adds or clarifies to my findings please post.

THIS ONE BELOW IS THE BEST.
-AAF
First, do not embed audio. UNCHECK "enforce media composer compatibility”, UNCHECK “quantize edits to frame boundaries”. Export audio as AIFF. CLEAR ALL CLIP GAIN!! Keep Audio Files and exported PT Sequence in same folder. This seems to offer the fewest ticks and pops on fades, though you may still find some. With AAF you get track names, AND audio automation. Clearing Clip volume from the PT sequence is important. Otherwise crossfades are often weird and useless because DP does not recognize clip volume from PT. Make sure AUDIO Files get copied to the DP folder where your DP sequence file will reside IF you imported from a place that won’t stay on your computer or you intend on trashing the original folder with the PT audio tracks.

IN MY EXPERIENCE...
-AAF Embedded Import from Pro Tools and Avid simply does not work. Audio clips have weird rhythmic audio glitches.

REGARDING OMF SETTINGS...
-OMF Embedded Import from Pro Tools and Avid WITH Clip Gain enabled works fine. Clip gain IS NOT imported neither is Volume Automation. If editor says they can’t export OMF, it may be because Avid doesn’t let you export OMF in 1080 (Hi Def), I believe. (On import to DP you get No track names, no clip volume automation, no audio automation.

...Yet OMFs do support volume automation. Export an OMF from DP and open it in Pro Tools, you'll see volume automation is there. Having said that though, OMF is kind of obsolete now so it does't really matter. AAF is a much better format.

Regarding clip gain, I would simply consolidate the affected clips in Pro Tools beforehand, that way there won't be any suprises upon importing into DP...

This is helpful info, but importing AAFs created by ProTools isn't the problem. It's importing AAFs from Avid and FC that hasn't worked for some time in DP. Not for me anyway. It's largely for this reason I subscribe to PT - as a utility to create DP importable AAFs.

My work around that seems to work is that I import the OMF into AudioDesk then save it as a DP file
