Dumb question about audio edit layer in sequence window

Post by waterstrum »

O.K. I'm embarrassed to admit that I can't figure this out.
I'm doing hours of editing audio tracks in the sequence window.

I am constantly switching the audio edit layer modes using the mouse and the layer box on the track.
Soundbites, Volume, Pan, Loops, Pitch, Bite Volume.
Many clicks in the tiny boxes, over and over again.

Are there key commands for switching the audio edit mode for a selected audio track in the sequence window?
I have searched and not found the solution.
Thanks!

The COMMANDS window search feature should provide super fast answers for a lot of stuff like that.

Thanks for your kind replies.
I tried the N, V and U commands, but they opened new lanes... a cool thing to know, but not what I'm seeking.
I also searched the Commands window with no luck.
I'm trying to use key commands to change the audio edit mode of the selected audio track.
Trying to avoid having to go to this mini menu over and over...

There must be a shortcut somewhere.
Thanks!

What about "Edit Next/Previous Type" whose keybindings are
shift right arrow and shift left arrow ?

Look in the Commands window in Continuous section. There are quite a few commands that select continuous data either in a lane or “in place” including “custom” controllers. I’ve also made Keyboard Maestro macros to open mini menus and choose an element. I prefer to manually locate the mouse cursor over the mini menu icon before initiating the macro with a click. Once open all menu items respond alphabetic keystrokes so a macro is a simple one. In your case: click, p, enter will make the pitch layer active. I’ve not been able to program the location of the mini menus in DP because they are constantly shifting.

Thanks for the excellent advice.

That is a very cool solution!
Doesn't allow direct choice of edit modes, but I can program keys to go back and forth through the choices.

Thanks frank... I've tried the macro concept and have the same issue... the location of the mini menu varies.

Just to close this out...
I had excellent assistance from MOTU and the specific key commands that I'm seeking are not supported.
Maybe will be in a future version of DP.

My "dumb question" is:

In [Commands > Continuous Data] how does "Edit Xxxxxx (CC xx) In Place" differ from "Edit Xxxxxx"?

Good question. Both commands seem to edit "in place" in the MIDI editor and do nothing at all in the Sequence Editor.

On my system, in the Sequence Editor, hitting V opens volume for editing in an automation lane, while hitting Alt-V selects volume as the edit layer in the main display.

It only works, though, if the name of the track is selected. You can do this with the mouse, or you can have a key binding. Mine is Alt+Shift+(up/down), though I can't recall if that's the default or remember exactly what the command is called (sorry).

Also, when viewing the waveform, you can touch any existing automation parameter, and DP will change layers without having to make the mouse trip all the way to the right of the window.

This also applies to the MIDI Editor window.
It does? Unlike the SE, the ME doesn't do this for me. I sure wish it did. I have to use the Shift-L/R arrow to change layers in the ME. Is there a pref I don't know about, FM?

Uuurgh! So sorry, for the false hope, dix!
You're right. I just checked and it only works in the SE.

I'll edit my post to take that out.

QuicKeys handles that beautifully, though... I have some macros programmed for that purpose, and you can work so much faster like this. It just takes a quick shortcut to do it.

Aww. Well, it really should! It's gotta be an oversight by MOTU. There's no reason that the behavior should be different in the SE and the ME.

I should check out QuickKeys. The ME edit layer behavior is one of the banes of my DP life. It's always turning to Dots for no reason. Since I do most of my work in the ME I have to use a mouse to switch it back to Lines, often several times a minute. Makes me nuts. I want it to just remain on Lines for everything except velocities! If anyone knows a way to make this easier I'd love to hear it. Could QuickKeys help this somehow y think?
