16GB extra memory-no improvement at all (DP7)

I changed the Kontakt setting. Now the Ram used is still low about 4.6 Gb and the other 24 GB are free.
Should I return the memory purchased? Or there is a workaround? The only reason I purchased the memory was for DP

Also, Plogue Bidule is 32 bit. Should I update to a 64 version as well?

Does this improve performance? Otherwise, the only other alternative is to upgrade to DP9. I don't use Bidule, so I can't speak to that. The extra RAM is a good thing for any other applications you have that might be 64 bit. To return or not is your choice.

Thank you for all the time you have spent but I feel a little lost. I am not sure if I understand the reason behind not be able to take advantage of the extra memory because of the 32 bit.

DP9 is a 64 bit application and plugin host. In short, 32 bit computer processors can only address 4 GB of RAM. 64 bit processors can address much more:

The applications running need to be compatible with the 64 bit architecture in able to access the available RAM. DP8 was the first to be 32 & 64 bit compatible. DP9 is fully 64 bit, but is not supported for OSX 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard). At this point, in order to utilize your installed RAM, you need a number of upgrades to proceed. Now, my expertise fails me, and I await other esteemed members of this forum to assist you further.

No, OSX 10.6.8 was the first Mac OS to be 64 bit compatible. Your OS and computer are compatible in theory, but that doesn't mean that DP9 is compatible with 10.6.8. Give it a try and let us know what happens.

The minimum OS requirement for DP 9.51 is 10.6.8.

The minimum recommended OS is 10.11 or later. It runs more efficiently with lower buffer settings in El Cap or later.

DP 9 is 64 bit only. Will Kontakt 4 show up? Being 32 & 64 bit, it should. If you see it in DP 9.51, you're fine. If not, ask and someone should know how to call it up (with 5.6, Kontakt for Mac became 64 bit only. I never had 4.x).

A 30 day shakedown is a good thing.
