Now that DP is up to speed, other than APFS, is there any compelling reason to upgrade to High Sierra?

It depends. As far as Apple is concerned, Security is the compelling reason (and I agree).

Tight integration with iOS is a plus — especially with iOS 11.1 and Mac OS 10.13.1 both being released today. I don't care a bit for the new emojis but I'm sure my daughters will.

There are still a few growing pains but, for me, they are minor, annoying only and involve the Mail client and Yahoo! Mail. Not sure if 10.13.1 has fixed them yet.

Besides 10.13.1, Apple released security updates that addressed the KRACK issue in the WPA2 security protocol.

There's never a Combo Updater for the .1 release of any Mac OS.

I have 9.5.1 on two partitions, one with Sierra and one with High Sierra. I can't see any difference when running DP. But I like HS itself. It has a good look and feel, and the first release of a new OS for a long time that doesn't feel like a beta. I guess this one had the potential to turn a lot of Macs into doorstops, so had to be really well tested.

But how do you get rid of the emojis?

Yes, I just got that. I was very glad to see it. I believe they released patches going back to El Capitan.

At least.

My VI drive has El Cap on it. Having last booted into it less than a month ago, I was surprised to see 6 updates including that security patch and updates to Safari, iTunes and four more.

After installing the latest HS updates, my iMac will not restart. A cold start start work fine, but on restart, the progress bar goes right to the end, then stops. I've let it sit for two hours just to be sure. A PITA when installing things that require a restart.

Has anyone seen this?

Yes. This may or may not be a bug.

How many OS partitions do you have? Doesn’t matter, really. That is your problem. You may have to reboot a few times and it may work (did for me). Once you’re up, now go to Start Up Disk — you will see that your other partition is still selected. Now change it to the 10.13 and you’re done.

Option Boot will not bring up the 10.13 Repair partition if any other OS is present. You can try booting into the 10.x Repair partition to see if you can re-elect the HS partition to see if that works. It should but I’ve had problems.

The way I do it is to turn off my El Cap drive so that HS boots. Then I see in Start Up Disk that El Cap is still selected. Now I unlock, select my 10.13 drive (the only one visible), shut down, turn on my El Cap drive and reboot.

I have two partitions on the same drive, one for Sierra and one for HS. There is a third partition for libraries with no OS on it, but there was a 10.10 startup on it once, and it has a repair partition on it. It keeps generating an empty Library folder. I don’t know if that has anything to do with it, but the problem didn’t come up until I installed HS, so probably not.

You’re right that there is no HS repair partition but there are still repair partitions for OS versions I don’t have any more.

The startup up preference has HS selected and has since I installed it. If I start up cold, HS is what I get with no stalling or glitches. If there was a bug related to the startup drive pref, I suppose it wouldn’t matter which one shows in the pref panel. It would still be confused, but why wouldn’t it just boot into the Sierra OS, rather than stopping during startup?

On the last restart today it did successfully install Little Snitch 4.04 for the first time, after several attempts, even though it didn’t complete that restart. I guess maybe it’s working things out. If this persists I’ll try starting up in one of the repair partitions as you suggested and see what happens.

After you do a cold start, go to Startup Disk. Unlock and select your 10.13 partition. This should fix you up ad a reboot shroud be fine.

Yes, I did that when I first updated to 10.13.1 and the security updates, and gone back to it a couple of times since. The 10.13 partition has always shown as the startup disk.

Doing that fixed it for me but I am on two drives, not two partitions.

Once I'm sure things are running properly on the HS partition, I'll erase the Sierra partition. That should force things to a conclusion.

Hello All,

Prior to the latest DP upgrade, whenever I would launch Digital Performer after having restarted my MacPro, I was presented with yet another sign-in window asking for my name, email address and S/N before being able to open DP.

All of that has changed ... for the better. Now that I have upgraded to DP 9.5.1 and High Sierra 10.13.1, I am able to go straight into Digital Performer without having to re-enter my name, email address and Serial Number Code, following a system restart. This alone is reason enough for me to recommend the combination of DP 9.5.1 and High Sierra 10.13.1.

P.S. As recently as last October, I was unable to use Tap Tempo in DP 9 without the program hanging up and not accepting my tapped tempo changes in real time. Since upgrading to DP 9.5.1 and High Sierra 10.13.1 I have noticed Tap Tempo to work much better than has occurred over the past several years. I believe it was DP4 (or possibly non-digital, MIDI-only, Performer 5.5) that Tap Tempo worked as well as it does now.
