Exported Soundbite Does Not Match Sequence Duration, 3s Diff
Hi guys,
I have a problem here with a mismatch of the duration/length of an exported soundbite vs. the SMPTE time code duration that was stated inside DP for that selection.
I can only assume I am not understanding frame rates / sample rates / timecodes correctly.
Here's the info:
> DP 9.5
> project setup is 23.976 fps | 48 kHz | 24 bit
> timeline starts at SMPTE 0.59.58.00
> import a wav file from PT (which came from a 23.976 session), place it at timeline start
> it conforms perfectly on the timeline to 00.39.59.19 total duration (ending at SMPTE 01.39.57.19), and when I select the whole soundfile on the timeline it shows a timecode selection duration of 00.39.59.19
> but when I view the sound file information in DP it states Length In Time: 00.40.02.19 - 3 secs difference
> then, when I export/bounce the selection that shows a timecode duration of 00.39.59.19, I end up with a 00.40.02.19 sound file as per DP and per MediaInfo
what am I not understanding ? why does the export/bounce not match the timecode duration shown inside of DP ?
Thanks !

Re: Exported Soundbite Does Not Match Sequence Duration, 3s
Is the pre and postroll being included in the export?

Re: Exported Soundbite Does Not Match Sequence Duration, 3s
no, I create a selection (in the example stated above by simply double clicking the file, selection range states duration of 00.39.59.19) and then bounce-to-disk.bayswater wrote:Is the pre and postroll being included in the export?
the DP info of that newly created soundbite states 00.40.02.19, although when I drag it into the sequence it's duration is 00.39.59.19
What am I not understanding ?
The exact same thing for the wav file from PT that I imported into DP. It's duration in the sequence is 00.39.59.19, but when looking at the soundile information in DP it states 00.40.02.19.
Re: Exported Soundbite Does Not Match Sequence Duration, 3s
Can you Edge Edit the Soundbite to make it 3 seconds longer in the Sequence editor?

Re: Exported Soundbite Does Not Match Sequence Duration, 3s
sorry bays, I'm not following...bayswater wrote:Can you Edge Edit the Soundbite to make it 3 seconds longer in the Sequence editor?

My problem is that I need the bounced/exported soundbite to be the exact same SMPTE timecode duration that was displayed in the sequence.
So I need the exported file to be 00.39.59.19.
MediaInfo states the exported wav file is 3 secs longer, so does the DP soundfile info, but when importing back into the sequence it shows correct duration...
There's gotta be a "gotcha" here that I'm not getting...

Re: Exported Soundbite Does Not Match Sequence Duration, 3s
The default preroll duration is 2 seconds, and the default postroll duration is 1 second. 3 seconds in total. So maybe its just a coincidence that the discrepancy you see is 3 seconds, but I thought it was worth checking that your exported file includes these 3 seconds, and it is being seen by whatever is reporting the longer length while DP is not including these 3 seconds when it reports the length.

ah, interesting... when playing back the exported file I do not get an additional 2 secs at the beginning so I doubt this was added...bayswater wrote:The default preroll duration is 2 seconds, and the default postroll duration is 1 second. 3 seconds in total. Re: Exported Soundbite Does Not Match Sequence Duration, 3s
Just checked: Mediainfo is reporting the length of exported files to be the same as DP reports on my setup.

Re: Exported Soundbite Does Not Match Sequence Duration, 3s
I just checked, pre/post roll are not enabled when I bounce selections from the sequence...
Re: Exported Soundbite Does Not Match Sequence Duration, 3s
figured it out... time code displayed in a 23.976 project is unfortunately not real time... it is based off 24p and does not account for the drop frame...
this is why the timeline display is correct but the export differs...

Hi MLC, it won't let me edit the title... I guess mods will have to do it !MIDI Life Crisis wrote:Great sleuthing! Could you please go to the first post and hit EDIT and change the title of the thread to add the words [SOLVED].

I guess. That's kind of odd, however.
