Custom Audio MIDI Setup Icons?

Hi - for some reason I'm having a really difficult time creating custom icons for my audio MIDI setup.

I've tried creating small TIFF files and saving them in Library>Audio>MIDI Devices>Generic>Images but they do not appear.

I was able to do this some time ago, but I'm clearly forgetting something.

I've also tried PNG and GIF and neither will appear.
