Need Help installing MachFive

Post by mhayesmusic »

Happy New Year everyone,

I just purchased Mach Five and I can't get it to install. It chugs allong and then I get this message:

Error creating folder.
1008:9,-5000 Access denied error

I have gone to the MOTU site and for the -5000 error it said to repair permissions. I did that. Still get the same message. I tried this with the ilok in and with it out and get the same results. What exactly am I missing? Where exactly does my stupidity lie????

If you are using the CDS that came with M5, try downloading the update (that is actually the complete program). The CD might be bad. Of course, you'll need broadband to do the download.

Error creating folder.
1008:9,-5000 Access denied error
Yet another example of vendors not wanting to help users. The obvious question above is "What fricking folder???" Alas, vendors seem to want to make it as hard as possible for us users to solve our own problems. When creating a file or folder, a return code is provided to the application by the OS. MOTU could very easily check that return code and then print the name (and, please, the COMPLETE path) of the folder so that we have some clue as to what is failing.

This is just lazy programming.

One thing to check. There should be a file in the top level of your HD called something similar to:

MachFive 1.23b Install Log

You might want to open that and see if it has any clues within. As a side note, why does MOTU want to dump these in the root of our hard drives? Geez...

Is this a multiple user system? If so, log in as the "owner" or start up in safe mode (hold shift key when rebooting) and see if that helps.

M5 is a great program and is worth the time ti figure out what the porblem is.

Hmm, while the install log that is on my iMac in the root of its HD is actually an uninstall log:

Code: Select all

Sunday, September 18, 2005 1:57 Beginning installation.
Install MachFive 1.2.3b PT
Type of Install: Uninstall
Deleted MachFive Protools OSX
Deleted Plug-ins
Deleted Digidesign
Sunday, September 18, 2005 1:57
The install log is in:

/Library/Receipts/MachFive 1.23b Install Log

I just checked on the G5, and it's in the above location there as well. Not sure why MOTU plops these in different locations...

ok folks.... her is where i stand now......

still get the error when i try to install...funny thing, I open up DP 4.12, creat a new instrument track and low and behold...there is M5. It opens on a new instrument track. Now I look for the supposed MIDI file that hte manual says I installed and its not there, I also try to use M% as a plug in in an existing audio track and its not part of my list. I also try to drag and drop the sample presets in the spot you are suppose to drop them in and ..........no dice I get errors. I am obviously a ROOKIE to M5, but I would love to open the tutorial to mess with .... I am the type of guy that really messes with new gear before I use it in a situation. The error I get when I do drag and drop is " The UVI-enginr reported an error...could not install selected samples ID #30306
Please help...MOTU support is like my day job 9-6 (which means we can't speak to each other......

It's a VI so won't show up in the Insert choices on an Audio track.

Hmm, yeah, you're right. The illustration on page 15 definitely shows it in the list with other FX plugins. That's weird. I just tried though, and it doesn't show up. I started to get excited that you might be able to use it's FX section to effect audio tracks, but doesn't seem like that's the case.

Starting with simple stuff first:

I ran a quick Spotlight search for Mach Five folders on my system. This is what I found:
  • /Library/Application Support/MOTU/Mach Five

    /Library/Audio/Presets/Digital Performer/Mach Five

    /Applications/Mach Five Extras

Mach Five Sound Folder (the user decides where this should go)
Did your M5 install create all of these on your box?

chris pick,

dude thanks for that insight. I tried to see my setup the same way, heres what happened:

-library/app support/MOTU/ Mah five.........thats empty
-library/audio/presets/ (well lets stop there.... there is no preset folder
-appplications/mach five extras ( well that folder is there and all that is in it is the tutorial sounds not the MIDI file they are talking about.

OH YEAH!!!! and the best part folks........ i look in the application folder and Mach Five as an application is NO WHERE to be found. I feeel like Charlie Brown when Peppermint Patty pulls the football away!!!!!!
Also I put my sound folder on one of my external FW drives is that cool? Thats what I was recomended to do!!!
