do i get better result to change G4 1.25 to G5 2.5 about
I using g4 1.25dual,osX. 3.4 with DP 4.52 and digi192 in motu system ,with some softsynth like ivory , mach 5 , ni , stylus . But i really not satisfy with the latency even i set the buffer size in 128 , and with 2 audio track together . it have clip noise already .Did anyone tell me , if i buy a G5 2.5 Dual , will it solve all te latency problem when i playing the softsynth ? Thanks for help. javascript:void(0)

Being that a Dual 2.5 GHz G5 would be an all-around faster system, you would see an improvement (get plenty of RAM!). But no one can guarantee you won't encounter latency. Does DP 4.52 have a buffer setting lower than 128? If so, you may be able to use it with a G5. I sometimes dub with a 32kb buffer in Logic Pro 7 with a Dual 2.5 G5. Works fine if I freeze tracks or at least keep realtime fx to a minimum. What MIDI interface and MIDI controller(s) are you using?

DP can go as low as 64kb with a 2408mk3.
But I use 256 which is fine for me.

thanks for the advised , i using HD192 & 828mk 2 as interface , when in 192 only 128 buffer can set ,
in 828 can choose 64 , but alway crash in G4 ,
So i think i will get G5 couple of day . Also , Did someone using softsynth to Play live with powerbook
with program running? Imean using softsynth like
mach5 ,ivory or the stylus , i hear a gear call receptor ,
quite amazing for me .

thanks sdfalk ,
it mean the g5 1.8 can set to 256 won't feel the latency
when you play your keyboard?

With the MOTU MIDI interface, you should definitely see an improvement. At any rate, I think you'll like the G5. I switched to a dual 2.5 GHz G5 with 2.5 GB RAM from a dual 533 G4 with 1.1 GB RAM. The G5 is so much more powerful there is just no comparison. Funny thing: just last night I was recording with NI Guitar Rig through an Apogee Mini-Me connected to a MOTU 2408 mk II running into Logic Pro 7. When I was finished, I went to set the buffer back to 1024. Except...I never changed it to a lower setting. And I still had a few realtime plug-ins running! My jaw went slack. I was not getting any appreciable latency. That's the G5 for you!
