Incoming MIDI filter suggestions?
I have a Korg Wavestation keyboard and a Korg expression pedal plugged into it that sends very smooth Foot Pedal (controller 4) MIDI data out from the Wavestation.
I use it in all of my DAWs and in Cantabile converting the Controller 4 data to (typically) Mod Wheel data (Controller 1) on-the-fly and in the process also filtering all keyboard note and other data for that particular assigned input. I can also re-channelize the incoming data stream in other DAWs at the same time. Not in DP.
I can still use the keyboard as a regular keyboard controller with notes and all as a separate input assigned by channel to somewhere else.
But this is not true with DP 9.1.2 - If I want to use it for its controller pedal, I cannot seemingly create a "WS Controllers" channelized input that only includes that foot pedal (and I usually also pass the joystick, controllers 16 & 17). It lets everything through to all of the tracks no matter what I do.
Any suggestions how I could accomplish this? I'm spoiled with having had this in Samplitude, Cantabile, Harrison Mixbus, Cakewalk Sonar, and even Ableton. Only DP is restricting me - likely because I do not know of a workaround that works for DP.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and for any help you can offer.

Re: Incoming MIDI filter suggestions?
Also, where would one add a MIDI filter plugin found on the web so that it shows up as a plugin in the mixer? I've added MIDI POLYSHER but it does not show up as a plugin specific to a MIDI track. It DOES appear in the plugins list as "Passed".
Is there a special folder for those to live in? I could not find such a thing.

Re: Incoming MIDI filter suggestions?
You may already know about "Multi Record" in DP. This setting provides a specific input port & channel for each track. Its in the lower section of the studio menu.
DP does also have a Remap function and Device Groups, but neither of those appear to rechannelize anything. I've long wished that DP included more details for MIDI channels in the Bundles window, so that routing of MIDI data via MIDI channels was as flexible as the audio channels in Bundles are.
As for the MIDI plugins, -- this is just a guess-- but I suspect you could insert that plugin in an audio track or create an INSTRUMENT with that plugin-- it would receive the MIDI and do something with it. How you get MIDI data to the synth after that is up to how the plugin works. Again, that's just a guess.
But this points to another possibility-- you might be able to set up a stand-alone app that processes MIDI that then passes it to DP after some rechannelizing.
Take all this with a grain of salt.

Re: Incoming MIDI filter suggestions?
Thanks for that input!
Yes, I have it working at the moment using multi-record, the only problem being the Wavestation also plays every single VSTi that I have set up to receive the pedal-to-modwheel conversion! That is why re-channelizing would be a real plus here.
I will experiment more with Bome's MIDI Translator and see what I can do with that. I was saddened to see the MIDI Polysher plugin did not work AS a MIDI plugin that I could insert - I seem to recall some folder for all the MIDI filter plugins, but have not been able to find that.
Meanwhile, this is not critical. I needn't use the Wavestation Keyboard for input (I have plenty of controllers!) and I'm happy just to have the pedal-to-modwheel function (alternately assignable to any controller # via DP's existing "Reassign Continuous Data" filter), as I prefer using the pedal.

Of course, Terry, you may already know about MidiPipe.
It solved some of my MIDI nightmares in a few projects.

Re: Incoming MIDI filter suggestions?
Yes, I've seen MIDIPipe mentioned often here, but I am running DP on Windows, and they never ported it over, unfortunately.
Still wondering if I will be able to bring a third party MIDI filter plugin into a track's plugin dialog - I'll seek out some other ones.

Re: Incoming MIDI filter suggestions?
Well, Terry, just to mention, MidiPipe works outside of DP. That is to say, not in DP MIDI tracks.
It transforms selected MIDI incoming messages and create new MIDI channels.
I wish it would work inside DP MIDI tracks.
In live gigs, that would allow different settings in each sequence.
I'd love to see Motu improve and develop its live MIDI plugins.

From what I can tell reading about it, Bome's MIDI Translator seems to work the same way, as an external processor grabbing the MIDI on its way in.daniel.sneed wrote:Well, Terry, just to mention, MidiPipe works outside of DP. That is to say, not in DP MIDI tracks.

I actually had higher expectations for the MIDI tools within DP, as I had been so impressed back in the day when I used Performer 3.2 on my souped-up Mac Plus! (I have only recently returned to the MOTU fold.) Nowadays, though, most every DAW has more MIDI features. Too bad, but not a disaster. I'm still loving DP for what it brings to the table that is uniquely its own.

Re: Incoming MIDI filter suggestions?
a DP Console is the tool for this task.
remapping is straight forward to setup, remapped data is sent only to the channel you setup and by default the source for remapping is pulled out of the stream
However in 9.12 there's a behavior I've not noticed before - when recording, remapped MIDI data is recorded on non-record enabled tracks.
When Consoles don't offer sufficient processing, Plogue Bidule rarely lets me down.

Thanks! I missed the entire chapter on Consoles (Chapter 53, P 655). I'll read about it today.reedster wrote:a DP Console is the tool for this task.

How could a bug that records into un-armed tracks even exist???
You are correct that I likely should break down and invest in Plogue Bidule. I have their two freebies (Alter Ego and Sforzando) and their coding is very good!
