how to save a DP project with all the plugins effects data?

Post by barnee »

Hello people,

I'd like to know how to save a Digital Performer project with all the data concerning the automation and effect from plug ins?
Is it only to "save the project" then copy the folder in my burner?

I use a PowerBook G4, but I move the files onto a PC to burn them onto DVD.

When you make a mix with effects selected in Automation setup, it saves all the settings otherwise you need to pull them into Plugs clipping menue.

It's not as complicated as that. Just save the project, that's all. When you reopen it, whatever plugins you had assigned with still have the settings that were present when you last saved.

Hey Guys,

This is somewhat related, I think. I am mixing a project with the same instrumentation from song to song, and I want to save all the EQ, etc, from each channel when I open another song in the project. I saved it as a template, but I believe that's for starting new projects. How do I do this?

Thanks all.

Start a new project and set it up the way you need it to be, and save it as *Whatever... Template". Now when you need to record something using that template, fire it up and immediately Save As.. whatever it's called.
You still have the original setup, and you've hit the ground running with your new project. You can always go back to your original template and update it (and save) when necessary.

Tip: If you have several templates you want to use fairly regularly, to make it wasy to find them, save them with an asterisk before the file name. That way they'll all appear together at the top of the list.

Cheers,

Geoff

If you want to load the same mix parameters on a different project that already exists this is what you have to do:

- Mix project 1 with the setting that you want.
- Open project 2 and from the load menu load seq-1 from project 1. Make sure not to load the soundbites.
- Now a new chunk will be created in project 2, that contains all the mix parameters of project 1 including levels, pannings, plug-ins, etc.
- Copy the soundbites form chunk 1 to chunk 2 and the new song will be ready to start re-touching the mix.

For this procedure to work well, you have to make sure that you have the same tracks, and in the same order between the songs. I am asuming that you have one song per project.

Thanks, Geoff and Alex, for your answers. And yeah, Alex, it's a guitar player's cd with consistent instrumentation from song to song, so all I would have to do is what you guys suggested.

But do I have to drag the soundbites manually, or is there some kind of command/automation I can use inside of DP?

If it is from one chunk to another, good old copy and paste will do. If you have tempo maps, markers etc. Remember to copy also the conductor track. Do not make soundbite selections but instead select a region, or better yet: go to chunk 1, select all, copy, go to chunk 2, select all, paste.
