DP 9.02 started crackling out of nowhere

Post by Vewilya »

Hello everyone

I'm new to this forum and DP. After working for years in Logic trying to setup a big orchestral template I finally gave in and ordered myself a copy of DP 9 after seeing a bunch of composers praising this DAW.
I setup my template with frustrating ease. Routing is just so great. And it sounds really beautiful. I know this is controversial to say but I think DAWs have their own sound somehow...

My setup consist of 3 computers: an 2011 3,4ghz i7 iMac with 32GB of Ram, a PC slave with about the same specs, and a six-core MACPRO 5.1 slave with an 3,33ghz XEON processor. My template has a about 600 MIDI tracks going to 4 VEPRO instances. 2 of them are on my MACPRO, one on the host and the other from my PC. These 4 VEPRO instances I put in a V-Rack along with the submix-auxes.

Now this was working incredibly well last project. Still getting to know the DAW but absolutely love it. A couple of days ago DP suddenly started crackling while playback and MIDI input. CPU meter is nowhere near red. Haven't changed a lot. Don't use any plugins right now, because I'm still composing and mixing comes later...
My question to you is whether there's some ideas that come to mind when reading this. I fear it might be some stupid mistake but haven't been able to solve this. Don't wanna go back to Logic...
I tried pregen vs realtime plugins... Buffer size is around 512...

so...

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Urs

Normally when I get crackling it's because the audio interface lost its sync somehow. Rarely happens but when it does it's because I'm at a higher rate like 96k and using multiple interfaces. This might be also using multiple host like VEP. Try rebooting the interface or VEP? I'm only just beginning to use it on two Mac with similar specs to yours. Just a suggestion.

Look for sync and clocking issues.

Thanks guys.

This was actually my first idea. It sounded like this! I have a TC 4000 Reverb hooked up via SPDIF.... So checked clocking source etc. I reset my Focusrite Clarett but so far no success.
But I'll check again tonight. Project is set to 48khz...so....
If you guys think it's clocking or syncing issue I'll check that.
Thanks again.

I reported some popping that seemed to have gotten into my tracks, but after further exploration I found that it was a comped guitar track. It didn't have pops when I comped it, but later, playing back with the mix, it was popping away. It seems like the comps are not doing cross-fading as well as they used to. Or something to that effect. Still trying to figure out why.

Hey Shooshie

That's a nasty one. I'll have to check. There are some audio files and fades etc. going on. I'll read up on the thread as well.
I loaded a new template file (exactly the same as my problematic composition but without any MIDI or audio clips in it) and reset all devices and prefs and clicks are gone for now.

But the described problem file can't even be opened right now. I get kicked out of it as soon as I open it. I think it was also you who reported somewhere that there are no crash reports available lately to send. That's exactly what's happening. Annoying really...

Thanks for your help guys. Really appreciate it!
