DP9 seems to forget things

I didn't know quite how to phrase the problem I'm having to use for a thread title but here it is: I'll open DP9.01 from the icon in the Dock. Then I'll navigate to the drive that has my DP projects on and then to the specific project I want to open. I double click on the project icon and the project opens up and it does. The problem is it's not the latest version of said project. In a couple of cases it's only had the MIDI data on several tracks but none of the instrument tracks I had the data routed to are showing. I have autosave enabled and my left hand is permanently bent into the cmd-S position which I hit every 2 to 3 changes. Plus I do another save before I close the project.

Here's the kicker: if I go to the last autosave and open that the project has everything that it had when I last worked on the project.

This has only happened on a pair of projects and every project I've worked on before, inbetween and after those troubled projects has been okay so I don't think it's pilot error that I can see though I won't rule that out. Once I've opened the last autosave, done some work and then saved the project I've no longer had an issue with that project.

Now I usually don't look in the autosave folder but something I noticed in the troubled projects is an audio files folder in there. There's no files there yet because I haven't rendered anything to audio at that point.

I don't know if this could be related to MLC's missing files issue or not so I figured I start a separate thread. Or even if it's related to the thread with the MIDI track faders issue that's recent.

That is worrying, to say the least. I've held off on going to DP9 (mostly because the new features weren't of enough value) but these reports are troubling.

I'm curious what the "Date Modified" says in the Finder window of the project file, vs the autosave file. In other words, would the "Date Modified" match the version you see when you open it with missing things. Though it sounds like the things that are missing in your last save are not necessarily chronological, is that right? In other words, the file isn't missing things that are necessarily the most recent changes?

Oy. The more I think of it the more concerning that is. Like you need to keep saving at least 3 versions (in case the autosave happens to catch your project before you realize what's missing!!)

I don't really know what a "Memory Leak" means, but as MLC has reported missing swathes of data, this cannot stand! Best of luck to MOTU to chase this one down quickly!

The date modified for the project file did not match the latest autosaved file date modified; I forget which way that ran. The things that were missing in the last manual save were indeed chronological. The MIDI I had flown in from another project in both cases and everything I did after that (like assign vi's, etc.) was missing from the last manual save before the project was closed. The last autosave file had everything the last manual save should have had.

Typically a memory leak means a program keeps on eating up ram and cvan keep doing so until it runs out of ram space.

If it was saving the project in another place wouldn't the autosaves also be in a different place? Or are you saying that DP might be saving the manual saves in one place and the autosaves in the project folder DP creates? I'll take a look through my drives and see if there's any extra project folders - is that what I should be looking for or just the project itself without any ancillary files in some other place? I do have backups of all my projects but those I make through OSX and not through DP (DP is shut down when I do that).

Yes, I'm asking whether DP saving the project files but is not consistently saving all project components in the same folder. A Finder "Find" on filename should answer the question easily.

The biggest problem is this is not consistent behavior; so far it's only happened on the two instances I mentioned and hasn't happened since. That it happened once I can attribute to pilot error but twice makes me wonder if something else is going on. I did look and could find no other places the project file existed. I could also understand if this was a new revision of DP but for 9.01 to all of a sudden have this happen intermittently is disturbing. And that word 'intermittent' is the biggest hurdle when trying to overcome an issue.

I checked my drives and they're running okay so it's not like a drive is going south.
