Mikey no likey - changing soundbites across chunks...

Post by MIDI Life Crisis »

Previously (unless I am mistaken and I don't think I am) if I copied a chance or selection to a new chunk and edited the audio, the original chunk's audio would not be changed. Now if I change a soundbite length in on chunk, it changes in all the chunks (rather than creating a new soundbite).

That's a new PITA.

There's a setting in the Sequence Editor mini menu "Edge Edit Copy".

I think it defaults to OFF. And I often get burned by that once or twice before I realize it's not checked.

Say I define a little audio region because I want to use it to "repair" another part of the track. So I select a range, I hit COMMAND-Y, then I copy it and paste it at the new location. I slide it into place and nudge the edges. I go back to the original location and now that audio is now all eff'ed up. "Edge Edit Copy," I mumble-grumble aloud, and go check it.

I need to add it to my list of things to check & reset when I do a fresh install.

If I was understanding your first post, you'd want it left ON. But maybe I misunderstand.

Yes. It should have been on. Apparently it got turned off at some point.

I got bit by this one just a few days ago, working on a new version from an old file. I assume that setting is per-file and not global? I'd prefer global, myself and the default to be on rather than off. I've never ever needed that setting to be off rather than on that I can recall. You can seriously screw things up with it set to off as you're unknowingly editing bites you're not even seeing.

It's not in the preferences so apparently it is per project. I guess that makes sense, but I'm confused as to how this particular project was the exception. Couldn't possibly be user error. What if!

I just tested this by confirming it was checked in two different projects.

Loading one project and unchecking it and saving, then opening the other project and seeing that it was indeed unchecked in the 2nd project. So at least in this case, it is a preference that appears to stick globally, but perhaps can somehow be "forgotten" when opening some project?

I had thought it would just be a case of trashing prefs that would 86 it.
