Hi guys - I have a 2009 Mac Pro that has been working great with DP 8. I have an antiquated office Mac that needs replacing so it brings up the do I buy a new Mac Pro for the main studio computer and move the 2009 to office ? Or should I just hunt another used 2009-10 for office .
How long before the 2009 Mac is outdated? What are the advantages to getting a brand new Mac Pro? I'm sure it will improve my DP experience somehow ....worried how many peripheral things the new Mac will require . I have a Radeon vid card in the 2009 that makes everything run smooth on cinema displays etc...
Thanks in advance!

Do my (2) 23" HD Cinema Displays need an adapter to work with the trash can Mac Pro? My Radeon Vid card has made DP look so much better - what am I looking at with MP upgrade? Thanks

the new Mac pro that's $2999 - only 12GB RAM , not upgradeable .....anyone care to deliberate on that? Is that enough ? My DP 8 seems about at the limit with my 2009 Mac Pro / 16GB RAM
thanks

Drop in a hex Xeon X5680 or 90 and double your horsepower for $135 (current Ebay price), get some SSDs going, and be happy.
Note the single CPU 4,1 presents none of the de-lidding issues the dual CPU 2009s do. You do have to update the firmware to 5,1 before dropping in the hex CPU, but like the upgrade itself, it is pretty much a no-brainer. Even I could do it.

thanks for the info - am I crazy , you spend $2999-$3999 on new MP and you have to open it up and replace stuff Seems like a hassle for spending top dollar on new waste can. Thanks!

It depends...
You go from SATA II to PCIe and Thunderbolt speeds, increased graphics capability, lower heat... there are many arguments to be made in favor of the new Mac Pro.
You may find that a souped up 2009 is just the ticket, however.

You do understand I was talking about upgrading your current 4,1 Mac Pro…?
