Did DP 9 Automation Change to now stay with takes?
It seems like the automation data now STAYS with a take.
It did not do that in DP 8.
I seem to recall older versions of DP before 7 maybe, used to have "automation stays with take”, as an option, a LONG time ago.
1) I automate take one of a guitar.
2) I try another take and there is now NO automation on take 2, with take 1 automation being GONE in take 2.
As it stands now, it seems to me that any automation done in an audio track stays with that take ONLY.
It used to be that the automation was separate from the takes and would go with each new take, i.e., if you made a NEW take and looked at it, you’d see the automation from the prior take...
Again, has something changed? Is there a preference to go back to the old way?

Automation in takes is something I couldn't figure out in 8 and it doesn't look different to me in 9. You seem to be able to get further with it than me. Here's what I get.
1. Show takes.
2. Draw volume automation in one or more takes.
3. Hide takes.
4. Show takes.
Volume automation data no longer there.
Do steps 1 and 2 above, then add a take. Same thing: all previous automation except for the Comp track disappears. Go back to the first Comp, and it has its automation data, but none of the takes do.

Automation in 8 was completely unrelated to takes. Whatever you did with takes just didn't effect itbayswater wrote:Automation in takes is something I couldn't figure out in 8 and it doesn't look different to me in 9. You seem to be able to get further with it than me. Here's what I get.

I want it to at least be an option to NOT be connected to takes, and preferably, a PER TRACK option. Short of that, I would like automation to stay separate from takes. I'm going to write Magic Dave, he's the man!!

Maybe its because I created the project in 9, but I'm seeing exactly the same thing when I open it with 8. Of course the lanes aren't there but I can still draw take specific automation, which then disappears if the takes are hidden. And, again, I get the same thing in DP 9

Re: Did DP 9 Automation Change to now stay with takes?
I have not experimented with drawing in things and opening and closing takes in comp mode. What I have done is use fader automation and then switched takes, only to find that the automation stayed only on the take I was on when making the fader moves.bayswater wrote:Maybe its because I created the project in 9, but I'm seeing exactly the same thing when I open it with 8. I think things also change if one is working with Mix Mode Off or a duplicated mix.
I can´t find the info in the manual, but I remember it explains how takes behave differently when a Mix mode is engaged-

Automation is different. With Mix Mode on, the automation belongs to the mix, not the track. When you change mixes with it on, you lose the automation until you go back to the mix that owns it. But you can copy automation from mix to mix.FMiguelez wrote:I think things also change if one is working with Mix Mode Off or a duplicated mix. How? Copy and Paste results in audio being pasted too even if source and target are on the same automation layer.bayswater wrote:FMiguelez wrote: But you can copy automation from mix to mix.

I suppose you could use view filter to temporarily hide soundbites so you're only seeing automation when you copy and paste.steveo wrote:How? If audio is being pasted, then it must be getting copied.

Well, yes. Even though the volume layer (for example) is showing.bayswater wrote:If audio is being pasted, then it must be getting copied.

Re: Did DP 9 Automation Change to now stay with takes?
So maybe you are copying a set of objects in the time range of the selection rather than just the volume automation events. There was a bug in 9.00 that selected objects not in the lane of interest. That was supposedly fixed in 9.01. Either way you will need to copy in a way that only catches the events you want to paste.

I'll check that next time, thanks. I thought it was just the dots, but maybe that's it.
