Re: DP 9 impressions and issues thread
I'd prefer longer more general threads so there is more discussion across issues, but threads like this always wander off topic, or worse end up in pointless pissing contests.mikehalloran wrote:I agree. This forum is easier to search than many others but it still leaves a few things to be desired in that regards.
Separate threads for specific problems can make things easier to find especially when the same question is asked 6 months later. Then a quick search can find the older thread so that a link may be pasted.

Re: DP 9 impressions and issues thread
I think for the first 3 or 4 months when a new version is released it makes sense to have am x.0 issues thread. After the first bug fix update it's not helpful.

True but we've not had the first bug fix update yet.Michael Canavan wrote:I think for the first 3 or 4 months when a new version is released it makes sense to have am x.0 issues thread. After the first bug fix update it's not helpful.

Re: DP 9 impressions and issues thread
That still isn't very helpful, especially for bugs that don't get fixed or for those who don't understand how the workflow was designed in the first place, not to mention the members searching topics for a specific issue (which is far more efficient).Michael Canavan wrote:I think for the first 3 or 4 months when a new version is released it makes sense to have am x.0 issues thread. You can search message text as well as topic titles. So why does it matter whether someone posts in a related existing thread, or in a new topic? It's just a searchable database of postings.MIDI Life Crisis wrote: not to mention the members searching topics for a specific issue (which is far more efficient

Re: DP 9 impressions and issues thread
Because there is much more to wade thru when you search content instead of topics.

More to "wade through" can be good. A search can always be further qualified. The use of
"-keyword" can be useful to narrow results.

I'm guessing that you don't search the database very often.bayswater wrote:You can search message text as well as topic titles. Re: DP 9 impressions and issues thread
If it's one thing I learned in high school and college is how to search for material. I mentioned it earlier in this thread that proper use of a search function can reveal answers sought. And sometimes one has to step outside of the forum search engine and use Google to search this forum.bayswater wrote:More to "wade through" can be good. A search can always be further qualified. Re: DP 9 impressions and issues thread
I do use it, but what does that have to do with anything? Searches work the same on the message or the topic or both. The search engine is what it is, but it works the same on any content.mikehalloran wrote:I'm guessing that you don't search the database very often.bayswater wrote:You can search message text as well as topic titles. Re: DP 9 impressions and issues thread
Well one of the reasons to have a .0 thread in my mind is to weed out the bugs that get fixed. IE say "mixer volume bug" doesn't get fixed, more than likely someone will make a post complaining about how 9.01 did not fix this, and you won't have to wade through numerous other little things with the mixer that pop up in the .0 thread.. IMO anyway it's a tomato/tomAto argument. Personally on a .0 release I would rather not have everyone post every bug in it's own thread, that may be easier to search but it sure would make navigating the forum a train wreck, and you know people would post duplicate problems in multiple threads.MIDI Life Crisis wrote:That still isn't very helpful, especially for bugs that don't get fixed or for those who don't understand how the workflow was designed in the first place, not to mention the members searching topics for a specific issue (which is far more efficient).Michael Canavan wrote:I think for the first 3 or 4 months when a new version is released it makes sense to have am x.0 issues thread. I would be willing to bet when .01 pops up here, there are numerous "MOTU didn't fix the bug that make 9 WORTHLESS FOR ME!!" threads.

I scrubbed some of the posts, but I have to say, this looked like the first little jab. Certainly it may have crossed your mind as you posted it that it was going to start something.musicman691 wrote:Somehow I'm reminded of the thread you wrote in about how to troll a forum
