Monitor level louder than playback with new 828x??

Post by gtrnstuff »

I saw this topic was around in 2004.
I did not have this issue, at least not to this extent, until I upgraded my 828 MkII to an 828x.

This has been my work flow since 2003.
With all Cue Mix mix busses muted, I use direct hardware playthrough to hear my guitar while overdubbing. I use the DP channel fader to set the monitor level of the guitar mics.
Playing back with that same channel fader setting, the guitar was at a comparable volume with the 828 MkII.
Now, with the 828x being the only new element in my signal path, the playback volume is almost inaudible without changing the channel fader.

This is fairly useless for quick punch-ins.
I will call MOTU Monday, but are there any workarounds you all know of?

Thanks in advance.

I have DP 7.24, Mac OS 10.7.5. Using 828x USB connection.

Well, I managed to juggle the DP mixer master fader playback volume and the guitar track volume and get closer.
Just seems like I shouldn't have to do that. If the channel fader is affecting the volume of the direct playthrough, couldn't it be calibrated so the playback is equal?

FWIW my record levels are pretty consistent, using the meters on the Apogee Rosetta that feeds the 828 via Toslink and supplies clock.

It appears the crisis is managed for now, but still if anyone has some helpful info I would be grateful.
