This means that you can do things like "Click track 1 then hold-shift and click track 10" to make a selection of tracks 1-10 now.

The Sequence window didn't support these basic things before. It was really frustrating.
Holy crap that's huge! Not exactly innovation, but so nice to have. That and being able to see the buffer size are my two favorite non-features so far. ...I actually requested the easy buffer access feature several times over the years, so you're welcome :)

Very nice changelog, very helpful. Careful everyone, undo has been CHANGED. command Z now keeps un-doing instead of toggling between undo and re do. Careful, you could un do things you don;t want if unaware of this. I would recommend everyone read changed log..here it is:
There isn't an official list, but I went through the complete changelog from the beta and cherry-picked a handful of miscellaneous tweaks that might be of interest. I left out most of the bug fixes, but let me know if you were hoping for a fix to a specific bug and I can tell you whether we were able to address it for 9.0.

• When event chasing CCs 1, 7, 10 and 11, find the current controller value by chasing forward to the first control point if there are no control points before the playhead.
• Added commands to insert as the seven custom controller values in Preferences > Continuous Data, or any controller via a dialog. The default key bindings are the row of number of keys.
• Added commands to change the insert type, add lanes, toggle the edit layer, toggle QuickFilter and more. These commands are also available in Edit > Continuous Data.
• Moved MIDI controllers out of the Controllers submenu into the top level in the MIDI Editor's Edit dropdown. The Edit dropdown also includes any other controllers present in the master track.
• Removed the filter menu in the MIDI Editor, Drum Editor and Notation Editor. Replaced it with checkboxes (and commands) that toggle showing only the active insert type or showing the selected data type (Quick Filter).
• Activating Quick Filter switches the active insert type to one of the shown controller types if the insert type isn't visible.
• Greatly improved project save speed.
• Save and restore the last selected fade settings across application runs.
• Removed Undo/Redo from the Edit menu, replacing it with unlimited undo and redo as separate commands. Undo/Redo is still available as a command but has no default binding.
• Added a preference to make all effect windows floating, on by default. Allow effect windows to be floated on a per-window basis.
• Automatically change the ruler type to match the filtered types when showing only the edit type or selected types.
• Allow tabbing into the "Current Step" field in Step Record.
• Strips in the SE can also be resized by the right edge of their ruler in addition to the grips to the left of the meter.
• Made vertical resizing of tracks in the SE easier when collapsed to the smallest size.
• Added an alert when opening a document if there is a newer autosave for the document available, giving the option to open that instead.
• Fixed the Welcome Window to not jump when loading the list of recent documents.
• The Track Selector now always shows which tracks are selected, even if the window is inactive.
• Always show scrollbars, even if the window is not the focus.
• Most windows now immediately focus to the first editable box on open.
• The movie window correctly remembers its floating state.
• Fix issues with trackpad scrolling and allow scrolling diagonally.
• [Win] Fixed drag-and-drop to Proverb.
• Commands to open windows that may be embedded (e.g. Tools) in the Control Panel are no longer disabled when the window is embedded an now toggle between being embedded and not if the Control Panel is docked.
• Add a buffer size drop down menu to the Control Panel.
• Tweaked display of sample rates in the Control Panel to show as many decimal places as needed for odd sample rates outside of the normal 44.1 kHz family.
• Fixed a bug where new tracks would be added to existing saved Mixing Board configurations.
• Fixed a crash when undoing an in-progress time stretch on a soundbite.
• [Mac] Fixed an issue under Yosemite where files with a capitalized extension wouldn't import.
• [Mac] Fixed fullscreen under Yosemite so the titlebar properly appears when mousing near the menu bar.
• [Mac] Fixed international text entry under Yosemite.
• Tweaked overview drawing to be more like DP 7 and prior in the Tracks Overview and Sequence Editor.
• Disabled tracks in the Mixing Board now display with the fader thumb missing so they are easier to identify.
• Allow the Bounce To Disk filename field to scroll when entering text.
• Allow editing longer names for sound files in the Soundbites window.
• Fixed an issue where overviews might get stuck recalculating and not compute properly until trashing the analysis folder.
• Fixed a graphics glitch with the leftmost fader in the mixing board.
• Removed the default keyboard binding for setting the tempo (previously '\') because it was easy to press by accident.
• Add forward delete as an alternate default binding for every command using delete/backspace.
• Change the default for "Fix partial measures automatically" to no.
• Enable Play automation by default for new tracks.
• Enable chasing of all event types by default.
• Disable "Ignore Mistakes" in QuickScribe by default.
• Removed note off velocities from the view filter by default.
• Removed the DV frame rate mismatch warning.
• Removed the internal scrollbar from takes in the Sequence Editor.
• Fixed an issue where exporting a MIDI file would not overwrite existing files.
• Made track selections in the Sequence Editor more like in the Tracks Overview.

My that's quite a list. It's from a beta tester apparently. I wonder why MOTU doesn't publish complete change logs.

btw, it also says "I left out most of the bug fixes, but let me know if you were hoping for a fix to a specific bug and I can tell you whether we were able to address it for 9.0."

You can change the commands back if you want (thank god!)

This log effectively puts to bed the conjecture that DP9 doesn't count as a real upgrade. ...assuming it doesn't violate MN rules, I'm thinking this massive info dump should have it's own thread. There is so much here.

That list is directly from a DP developer. He went through the beta testing documents and made that changelog.

My fault. Links have been updated in the original post and what I just quoted. They work now.

Can anyone with the 9.0 update post whether or not the behavior of grouped audio faders has changed? Specifically, I'm referring to grouped faders losing their relative offsets as gain is increased beyond its initial level when group was created.

Thanks!

nightwatch wrote:Is MOTU shipping a hard copy manual with the DVD upgrade? And is there an extra cost for the manual? I eye-balled the MOTU site but it wasn't clear to me. I hope they're still printing the 1000 page book. The PDF is great when on my workstation but I like reading the manual away from my workstation. I read the DP8 book cover to cover.

I'd apprciate it if someone would give me a clear answer and not slam me for not getting the info from the MOTU site or emailing them.

Thanks brothas!
If you buy direct from MOTU, you get the manual for free. If you buy from Sweetwater, you may get the manual. It may cost extra. We're not sure yet.
I just got off the phone with MOTU trying to get help with my account registrations. The lady I talked to mentioned that the physical upgrades will be going out in a few days (they're swamped as we all know) but she mentioned that it will not be a full manual but a 'manualette' as she called it with the new features that are in DP9. She said they're doing it that way because DP8 was recent. She also mentioned that there's the possibility that MOTU might have a full manual for purchase in the future but no date. Also she mentioned that they're working on getting the manual into an e-reader form but haven't settled on a platform.

I didn't think to ask her about new purchasers to DP9 if they'll get a full manual but I'd imagine they would.

OH yeah - the reason I called was as I mentioned above. In my account I show eligibility for the DP9 upgrade but as a pay for even though I'm within the window for the free update. She said don't do anything with that and that Magic Dave will go in and fix things in time. So if anyone else is seeing the same thing - don't sweat it for now.

I had an email from MD saying my order didn't go through. Glad I waited. I won't bother with the boxed version if there isn't a full printed manual.
