I totally hate the new calendar app. Ugly... hard to read. :(

Have you ever checked out Fantastical? I use it all the time, especially on the iPad.

My internet/Photoshop machine is a mid 2010 Mac Mini Core 2 Duo running OSX 10.6.8 in 64 bit kernel quite happily.
Well, since a Mini early 2009 and later is supposed to, that is no surprise.

From Apple:

What you need
To install Mountain Lion (or Mavericks or Yosemite), you need one of these Macs:
iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
Xserve (Early 2009)

Your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory
8 GB or more of available space

These all can boot into the 64bit kernel.

I use the calendar all the time, and I still can't figure it out. It used to be fine. What the heck happened to Apple?

I use it too but it's fine. Maybe I'm just a simpleton.

I share your frustration with Apple. I have a stable setup for DP, but otherwise things are not working well. I'm wondering why my iPhone calendar syncs immediately and automatically with other devices, but my iPad has to be synced manually when all settings are identical. I'll figure it out, but it's something like this every day. Yesterday, file sharing said a device didn't exist when it was visible and accessible via screen sharing. Time Machine told me the backup volume is full and can't be used, then did a successful backup 30 minutes later. And so on. It's the sort of daily annoyance and nonsense that drove me away from Windows. And iTunes: what can anyone say about iTunes.

Calendar works fine sort of. My boss puts things on Google calendar which also pops up notices in Apple calendar – man, that was annoying until I learned how to turn that "feature" off.

I have been using iTunes quite a bit. Trying to synch my iPod was a real bitch (I hadn't done it in three years but I'm providing music for an event tomorrow and...). To make a long story short, after I emptied my iPod, everything worked fine. Anyway, I am getting used to the current feature set, finally! and have pretty much figured it out. Pretty cool, actually.

Anything on DP9 yet?

I'm thinking somebody must've heard something. I sense something's not far off now.

Back in early April I got a PM from one of my fellow DUC'ers saying he had some info from an unnamed source of his that DP9 would drop in a 'month or so (his words)'. Other than that I've heard nothing. I don't know if this means anything but a friend of mine recently got the crossgrade to DP and was told my MOTU that he was in the grace period for getting DP9 free. My tea leaves would say it's close then but don't take that as anything more than my thoughts.

Historically, it's been somewhere between April and October.

Has anyone checked to see if we can pre-order other than upgrade to 8 if not done so already?

Go to the "buy now" link without logging in and it still gives you DP 8, and that's what goes into the cart.
