my first gig with DP - advice, please!

Post by menright »

Hello all-knowing DP guys. In a couple of months I'm going do my first gig ever as a solo performer with a laptop and a guitar. The music will be ambient, built from lots of what I imagine will be DP chunks that will be triggered as needed with some sort of external device. Both hand and foot triggers would be great, but I'd settle for hands. Mach5 might also be somehow involved; it is my usual sampler.

I would just like to know the experiences of anyone else who has used DP in this way. Tips on how to set up DP are desperately needed. The chunks idea is just speculation on my part; is that how you would do it? I assume for a performance all I would use would be tracks that had already been bounced so as not to put any strain on the laptop

And what kind of triggering hardware do I need? I have an Akai MPK mini; I also have some conventional MIDI keyboards.

Any tips? Any places I can go to see more information?

Thank you so much if you can take some time and give me some help.

OK, working on this concept mentioned in the post above. I set up two melodically different chunks, each with the same tempo. I gave each a chunk remote assignment which in this case was just a letter from my laptop's keyboard: "x" and "c".

Using these keys, I can successfully switch back and forth between the chunks, but only when I'm not in playback mode. Is there a way to do this? Would MIDI assignments from my Akai MPC controller make this switch while playing back?

Perhaps there is another way to do this, not using chunks?

HELP!

Hi Menright!
Slightly off-topic, but I wouldn't build a live show without a serious foot controller.

I have used many, but actually my preferred is
http://www.keithmcmillen.com/products/softstep/
It has basic factory presets and top notch advanced programming features.
