I got the 1.6 imac with 768 meg of ram and it holds it own well. I don't use much for soft synths mainly audio tracking but the higher ram and cpu for the system you're interested in should compensate.

iMac and Audio
What audio interfaces do you folks suggest with the iMac? I'm not quite happy with the quality of sound I get just using the built in audio in. Does anyone have any suggestions on say an instructional book on DP?
