O1v 96 mic preamps

Does anybody have an opinion on the quality of O1v mic preamps?

I have the original (non-96) O1v board and like the preamps a lot. Smoooooth!

We had both an older O3D and the 01v 96 at our theatre space. I did very little recording from either console, mostly live sound. From what I could tell, the pre-amps on the 01v 96 were very low-noise, and had lots of gain. They were clear and accurate in that context. No issues whatsoever.

Due to the nature of our set up (which required logic & simplicity), we use the Mackie for 20 mic pre's and brought lots of different equipment together in the Yamaha. I only used the pres on the yammy occasionaly, but I do like them very much.

On a broader note, I really love those 01v 96's for all the mix features. What a powerful and versatile box. Both the 03D and 01v were great for lots of applications. My only complaint about the 01v 96 is the small number of built-in outs. We did get an external A/D to get 8 extra analog inputs to the ADAT input. That worked VERY well. Perhaps one could use the ADAT outs similarly for more out buses.

The 03D was a monster that got very heavy use for many years. At one point it failed, we put in a new chip for $40 and it was like new (except that it looks a little raggedy).

I can't give you an audiophile impression on the pre's but thought I'd post those impressions.

Actually, I should add that most of my use of the 01v was also in live theater settings. Even today, the board sounds great, and it's like 14 years old!
