URS Plugins Mavericks/DP8

Post by jackorhythm »

Hi

I just upgraded to Mavericks from 10.6.8. Have recovered and updated everything but my URS plugins won't show up in DP8. I know it's an older platform, the company seems in limbo and hasn't upgraded them in a few years, and they're still 32 bit but long shot as it may be, is there any way to salvage them short of buying a $100 program like 32 Lives?

thanks

Jack

If they are 32-bit plugs you really have only two options:

1) Run DP8 in 32-bit mode. Find the DP app in the Finder, click get info, and click the checkbox to run in 32-bit mode.

2) You can use 32 Lives (which bridges 32-bit AUs) which is $100, but if you have VST versions of the plugs you can try using JBridgeM which is much less expensive at about $15. Here's a link:

Both 32-Lives and jBridgeM have a demo mode so you can try them first. These days I'm leaning toward 32 Lives as it is Mac-only obviously and the developer does a good job of updating and improving it. There is both a Windows and Mac version of jBridgeM and it seems to me the developer has been focusing much more on the Windows version (likely more lucrative) and the Mac version hasn't been updated for some time.

Long ago, I had downloaded the MDA freeware effects. I had used the Leslie simulator on a couple of things and found it useful but was disappointed that it stopped working in DP 8 64bit.

I bought J-Bridge and didn't use it much - ah well, it was only a few dollars. After I installed DP 8.06, I was looking through my plugs and saw the VST version of the MDA plugs being bridged by J-Bridge in my plugins list (I had forgotten that I ever downloaded them years ago). This was the first I ever saw them - have no idea why they never showed up before. The few I tried work including the Leslie simulator (I like it because I can automate the rotor speeds and brake).
