Maximum Ram for Dual 1,25 G4
Anyone running more then 2 Gigs of ram in their G4's.
Wondering if I can run four 1 gig chips.
Or maybe even 2 512's and 2 1gigs for now.

No. I've got this machine and the max is 2 GB and only using four 512's.
I tried using two 1 GB memory sticks but my dual 1.25 G4 froze.
check with the mactracker application

But was going to buy a 1gig chip if it would work, guess I'm gonna hit the ceiling with a 512chip.
I tried that ( 3 x 512 plus 1 GB ) and the total RAM shows up as 2 GB.
The celing for these G4's is 2 GB.

So to update this thread, I went out and purchased another 512chip to max out my G4 Ram. The comp. store didn't have any PC2700 chips in stock, so I got a Kingston PC3200 512MB. Pluged it in with my other 3 Kingston PC2700 512MB sticks and had MAJOR ISSUES. Lots of hard freezes and a System disk that needed some serious repairs. I ran memtest from from the root shell(startup w/ command-S). And sure enough wacky ram failures.
Promptly took out the PC3200 stick and ran a full memtest again with no failures.
So if anyone else is thinking about mixing PC2700 with PC3200, Beware.
I was told that PC3200 was "backwards compatible", but I think the PC3200 was robbing some voltage from the other PC2700 chips causing serious problems.
Surprisingly my comp. shop is exchanging the ram no questions asked.
Excellent service points for them.

Thanks for the heads up goody_ear.
I learned that purchasing RAM that " work " can be a major headache.
I'm lucky because I buy my RAM at a local non-apple dealer and install it myself right there in their shop. In my last purchase I had to go thru about a half a dozen sticks to get all 4 to work together. It sure must be a major hassle if you buy RAM by mail.
