Feature idea: select track + record enable in one shot

Post by MDesigner »

While working in the MIDI Editor, it would be an awesome workflow enhancement to be able to select a track in the Track Selector (pencil icon) and record-enable that track at the same time. I'm always switching to view a track in the MIDI Editor and 90% of the time I also want to record on that track.

Of course, maybe there's a secret way to do this that I don't know about! One can hope.. :D

Record enable is available in the information bar(s) at the top of the window if you have it selected in preferences. Go to Preferences -> Information Bar and make sure Track is selected for the MIDI Editor.

There are record-enable buttons available (by preference) in every edit window, plus the Tracks Overview Window and the Mixing Board, and the Channel Strip and Track Inspector windows.

If you mean that by selecting the track it's automatically record enabled, that's not necessarily a good idea. You'd have to not touch anything until the track finished recording, or else you'd deselect the track, and disable recording.

But if you just want to be able to record-enable any track you're looking at, you shouldn't have much trouble. There's always a record-enable button nearby!

Yes, I mean clicking a track in the Track Selector (so the pencil icon shows up) AND record enabling that track at the same time. One click. I don't really change tracks while recording ever, so that wouldn't be a problem. I think this would be a great addition as a preference option, such as "auto record enable when selecting a track." Or just having it be an extra key you hold while selecting the track.

IMO when working on insane deadlines, every click and mouse movement matters. If a sequencer can reduce steps needed to do things (optionally of course, so as to not throw off everyone's workflow), why not?

I would hate that kind of pressure. My clients and collaborators aren't quite so high strung. Art takes time and thought. I suggest a new strategy: let the wookie loose!

I have stuff in TV but not a series. My cues tend to be between 30-90 minutes. Makes BMI crazy. Lol

Yes, this is Cubase default behavior. It would be nice to have this option, it's helpful in many occasions. It's funny, but I've been doing a couple of projects in Cubase and that behavior was annoying me, so I turned it off!
