Set up Kontakt 5/Komplete Elements as plug-in instruments

Post by digital dog »

Does anyone have any experience setting up the Komplete Elements/Kontakt 5, to use as virtual instruments with DP 8 Windows? I've read and read and reinstalled and reactivated and still nothing showing in the effects drop down.

Do you have the correct path(s) entered for VST plugs in DP Preferences? Or DP has a 32 and 64 bit version for Windows. Are you running the right one or installing the right plugs for the version you're running? I use Komplete 9 and everything shows up fine in 64bit DP.

Correct path(s) may be the problem. I've reinstalled again and found a Native Instruments document "Digital Performer Guide - How to insert Native Instruments plug- ins" (sounds promising doesn't it ;-) .

Thanks for your help.

I'm having no luck. In Preferences I chose Audio Plug-ins, thën went to the Ädditional VST Plugins window and added the Kontakt Elements Selection R2 Library. I then closed and rebooted DP, went to the Mixing Board tried to pull down anything that looked like the Native Instrumrnt stuff, and only got the MAS plugins and instruments. Damn, I wish I had bought another Mac!

Unfortunately I do not have Komplete Elements, but I'm not getting what you mean by the R2 Library. Usually, the library path is not the same as the plugin paths. The plug paths would be in C:\Program Files somewhere whereas the library paths would be in your user folder or an external sample drive. I don't know what the default path is for the NI plugs is because I override the default on installation to keep all third party plugs together - maybe someone on the NI forums can help with the PC default. OTT, give MOTU tech support a call.

Thanks, I have posted to MOTU support, awaiting an answer. "Kontakt Elements Selection R2 Library" is the folder that contains all the samples, etc. It contains folders inside of folders until you get to the actual patches, could that be a problem for DP? I have played around with the Kontakt stand-alone and got it talking (or is that listening?) to my drum controller and my keyboard controller via my Tapco USB 4x4 MIDI interface. It seems like a extremely cool 3 piece software package for $50, if I can just get it to talk to DP.

No, that is not a problem for DP. Again, the library folder is not the folder where the VST plugs are installed. Try adding C:\Program Files\Vstplugins to the DP preferences Additional VST Paths and see if that helps - that is a common VST path. You might also ask on the NI forums where things are installed.
