I have 1 gig of ram, are you saying if I go to 2 or 3 it would make a difference, or "the " difference?

Heya. This is a bit confusing ... maybe it's the Waves plugs that are slowing you down? The UAD runs on its own card, so DP doesn't have much to do with it -- other than having DP 4.5+ will make things easier with latency compensation.
I'm just sick and tired of running out of CPU. I run out at 15 tracks sometimes. I've tried everything to make the performance better. It's not getting any better. And i'm not so sure DP4 on a G5 is going to be that much more horse power.

So i'm looking at PTs HD very hard. Not for the HD but for power. Please convince me that I should stick with DP and that there is a solution to the CPU limitation.
Related to what I said above ... the UADs should be independent of DP, so something else is slowing your system.

As far as PT goes, the reason to get it is the low latency, not the processing power -- You will pay out the nose for PT, only to eventually run into card processing limitations similar to the UAD card's limitations.

If you just need more processing power for mixing, continuously buying Macs and chaining them together is a better way to go than PT. The writing is on the wall, esp. with the distributed CPU management techniques we're increasingly seeing with Logic, Wormhole, system link, etc.
I just read i'm a junior member with 2 posts, I've got hundreds of posts on here from about 3 years back, don't know what that's about.
Unicornation bit the dust, and was revived. We all started from scratch again. :)

In theroy the UAD is supposed to not hit the CPU on the Mac but it does. As I add UAD plugs going on 20, or more tracks, the CPU gets hit harder and harder. I can't get 24 Cambridges and 1176s, I run out of uad cpu at about 18 tracks.

I can get 24 waves plugs, 6 band eq and compressors. Not much more though. This is at 1025.

I can get 40 tracks using DP plugs, EQ and compressors. There must be something wrong with my Mac. Just can't work with this anymore

I suggest you call UAD and talk to James in tech sup. He's a DP guy, and very helpful. Maybe you have an older UAD vs.?
