SPDIF In Getting Overloaded When Source Is Turned Off

For the last month, or so, our Traveler-Mk3's SPDIF input has been getting hammered when the source (Yamaha DM2000) is turned off.
Case in point, we came in (this morning) and the left was clipping and the right had signal (but not clipping).
The DM2000 was turned off.
We unplugged the coax cable and both channels of SPDIF in started clipping.
Power-cycling the Traveler will fix it, for a while.
The problem doesn't seem to effect the recordings (I think it's only when the source is off).
I wouldn't think it's good for the device, though.
Any ideas?

To me, the most important sentence you've written is "We unplugged the coax cable and both channels of SPDIF in started clipping."

Check your mix buses in CueMix so that no looping is being created involving the S/PDIF channel.

Perhaps a nice factory reset will help here if still stumped.

Well...
We did a factory reset and it is still happening.

A couple other points...
He was using power over firewire, when it started happening.
He switched to mains power and the problem persists.
Also, it is connected to a different soundboard (still a DM2000) than when it first started.

Unfortunately, the warranty period ended in May.
Any other ideas?
Our next step will be to start a recording when it starts overloading the channel and see if audio is actually being created (maybe the LEDs are just crapped and everything is fine).

He did a recording, while the LEDs were getting pegged, and there was no audio coming through that channel.
Apparently, the problem is just with the LEDs (maybe a meter controller or something?).

AFAICT, any digital input should be turned off when receiving no clock.
It's completely different from audio inputs in this regard.
I've seen that clipping behaviour many times.

This hasn't been an issue, for a while.
I'm not sure caused it to stop happening.
It is now connected to a different computer and the problem has re-started.
I have nothing connected to the SPDIF in/out and the right channel input meter is hammered (red).
There is no metering on the left input or either output (which there shouldn't be, as nothing is connected to them).
I am listening to music, through the analog outs, and it sounds fine.
Again, I think this is just a meter issue (not a sound issue).
