DP 8.06 crashes on startup repeatedly

Post by rhughes43 »

I recently upgraded to DP 8.06 from 8.05 on an iMac running OS X 10.9.2, 16 G Ram. 8.05 was super stable on same system. When I start DP 8.06, it first checks on my Virus TI Snow audio unit plug in (I have the attached hardware unit), and then immediately crashes. I get a report message that the "crash appears to orginate in OSX: Apple Framework (libsystem_pthread.dylib)." I start it again, it first checks on my Virus TI (not Snow), and crashes again. I get the same report message as above. Finally, on the third try, it says nothing about checking on the Virus, quickly scans the rest of the audio units, etc., and opens. It appears stable when I open and manipulate files, but then it crashes upon closing probably 60 percent of the time.

I have Logic Pro X running on the same system, and it is rock solid (so far) and sees the same plug ins and external hardware as DP. Things worked great in DP 8.05, but not anymore. Has anybody had a similar experience or have advice to share? I'd like to be able to use this software. Many thanks for your assistance.

It sounds like your Virus plug-in is the problem. Try removing anything
Virus-related from your plug-ins folder (Mac HD/Library/Audio/Plugins/
Components). Then launch DP and see if you still have the problem.

I had the exact symptoms but it was the Mackie Control Surfaces plugin that had trouble loading. It would crash the first two times and load the third time.

Console is your friend here - it will tell you what is failing to load. There is no need to guess.

Reinstall DP 8.06. Repair permissions and reboot. It's not a bad idea to do a Safe Boot first, then reboot again. This fixed me right up and I've not been bothered since.

YMMV
