"Edit Root DP Project" Question

Post by Kraznet »

I'm interested in buying a copy of DP 8 and getting to learn it. I'm wondering if the following similar Samplitude feature exists in DP8. Say for example you have created stereo mixdown and imported it into a new mastering project. Then you decide the kick drum is too loud. In Samplitude you can right click on the wave file and select "Edit Root VIP". Doing this will open the original multitrack project and you can then adjust the kick drum. Upon saving the multitrack project you will be prompted as to whether you want to append the changes to the project containing the stereo mix down. Upon answering yes the changes will be rendered into the existing stereo mixdown. Does DP8 have similar function?

Thanks

No.

You just open your project, edit and save or save as if you want to keep the original plus the copy. There are a few other ways to accomplish the same goal in DP.

I'm afraid it doesn't have that particular feature :(

The closest thing I could think of is DP's "substitute Soundbite", but that works only when you are in the same project, and it doesn't really do what you describe.

However, it has so many other great features I'm sure you'll find extremely useful. I encourage you to look at all the stuff DP offers. I think you will like it 8)
Mac Mini Server i7 2.66 GHs/16 GB RAM / OSX 10.14 / DP 9.52
Tascam DM-24, MOTU Track 16, all Spectrasonics' stuff,
Vienna Instruments SUPER PACKAGE, Waves Mercury, slaved iMac and Mac Minis running VEP 7, etc.

That isn't really a feature: it's a macro that does for you what any other DAW user would do themselves.

Open the project, make the fix, create the new stereo mix. Done.

Thanks for your replies guys. Of course it's perfectly possible to create a new mix but the advantage of "edit root VIP" is that any changes are rendered back into the existing stereo mix meaning it's not necessary to create new mix. Particularly helpful if you have a mastering project. Rather than creating new stereo mix and swapping out the the old mix with the new one the existing mix is appended. Okay it's no big deal and not a showstopper and I appreciate DP is a very deep and fully featured DAW with a great legacy.
