Got to play with a new Mac trash can

Post by MIDI Life Crisis »

Last night I went with a friend to but a new laptop. While they were finalizing the transaction a new Mac trash can was sitting there and in the overcrowded store, there was no one anywhere near it. I don't think they even noticed it.

I couldn't run any intense projects as the most complex program I found was GarageBand.

I stuck ear up to the top port and could barely hear anything nor was there more than a slight puff of air to be felt.

I was under the impression the machine was on a lazy Susan type base but it's not. All solid.

Rear panel is sleek and easy to get to. I'm ready but will need to find the best way to hang on to my external drives. TB is the clear path and a good multi-port USB device is in order.

By the time I'm ready to by I'm guessing matching and complimentary multi-functional peripherals will have emerged.

It's a lovely device.

What was the heat output like? No one has mentioned this in any of the reviews.

As another former G5 user, you certainly understand my concern.

No heat I could discern at all. The air flow was barely detectable and even with my ear on top of the can, I couldn't hear it, feel heat or more than a puff of air.

It did smell like Darth Vader's ass - which smells like new computer. I hear he has a new processor installed there about 3 times a day - but I digress.

Pls explain, when exactly did you first/last smell his ass?

Is this some new dimension added to cinema that I haven't heard about? I mean, I know we have 3d now, and maybe like in an Orwell novel we will get the 'feelies' at some point, but c'mon... smellivision?
Cheers,
BK

…string theory says that all subatomic particles of the universe are nothing but musical notes. A, B-flat, C-sharp, correspond to electrons, neutrinos, quarks, and what have you. Therefore, physics is nothing but the laws of harmony of these strings. Chemistry is nothing but the melodies we can play on these strings. The universe is a symphony of strings and the mind of God… it is cosmic music resonating through 11 dimensional hyperspace.

This reminds me of the old "Macintrash" insult you used to hear from IBM zealots back in the 80s-90s! Gives a whole new meaning!

I plan on using the power of my new MP only for good.

Consider a CPU upgrade, and check this out: http://www.barefeats.com/tube02.html

Other good stuff at Barefeats, too.

And, yes, MIDI, funny you are.

Hilarious.

Anyhoo, I played with the new base model MP yesterday running Logic. There were around 30 tracks with about 3 plugins per track. All stock plugins of course. I decided to add as many reverbs as I could, couldn't tell you how many, then duplicated all the tracks, opened Activity Monitor....all cores were barely at 10%. So about 60 tracks and who knows how many plugins. Safe to say this thing is a beast.
