Maybe not. Not even Pace requires you to have an iLok any more. Maybe they'll eventually let you use any USB stick for portability, like Waves has done.twistedtom wrote:There is logic in that, as more programs demand itI will have to.BKK-OZ wrote:+1nightwatch wrote:You should probably get an iLok 2 anyway.
You will have to eventually.
What reverbs do you like to use with DP?

If you guys haven't already, check out HOFA's excellent plugins, especially their EQ and Reverb. They have some free stuff, too. 4U Project Time is certainly handy and the 4U Meter Fader M/S Pan is superb.

To be honest, I wasn't nearly as impressed with ValhallaVintage. I downloaded the demo, which you can use, but spuradically cuts out. My plan was that as soon as I find myself using it on something I would pay the $50 and unlock it. So far, I've always chosen something else over it every time. MOTUs plate does just as good of a job, and even Valhalla Room out performs it for many of it's intended uses. It just doesn't seem as customizable as Room.twistedtom wrote:ValhallaRoom or ValhallaVintage they go for $50, I think they all may be a good deal.

Re: What reverbs do you like to use with DP?
Altiverb is my desert island reverb.. its been a long honey moon for me.
After that.. it tends to depend on just what's in my plugin folder: It seems like with this or that bundle or upgrade I keep getting more reverbs then I sorta know what to do with.. and sometimes I'll try out a freeware reverb.. and... and I tend to have an experimentalist attitude about it.
There's a plate reverb in Guitar Rig I use a good deal.. that I kinda like.
I DO use the Ren Reverb from Waves a good deal... and I have the hall reverb from IK multimedia that I think highly of.
I suppose mostly I feel like "I don't know what I'm doing."
Err, let me sorta give the gist of it.. for better for worse.
As a default.. I'll use 8 reverbs on 8 auxes in just about every production.. it'll start with a small plate to a large plate, small room, large room, small hall, large hall, and then like an Arena.. and I love the whisper room in Altiverb....
Alteverb will often have about 4 spots in those auxes.. and I'll go with a algo for the other 4.. or try to.. at least sometimes.. I don't know, it's always different.. but the idea is to kinda vary things up.. that convolution has its strengths and algo its.. and its sorta like how all the different colors and tubes of paint fit together for the painting..
So.. to some extent I don't really worry about reverb... I sorta have... a degree to which I know if I do X I'll get Y result.. and I'll know I'll get something good.. and then I try and make sure there's some variables in there where I don't quote know where it'll lead me..
Its sorta like.. this idea that in a mix you might make a commitment to something.. and via that commitment.. it's going to force you down paths.. where you might not know the way.. and the challenge to make it work.. helps to insure that you have an end result that is sorta unique and interesting.
I generally don't like the reverbs that come with DP... although I think Pro Verb is ok.
Truth is I don't really use the plugs that come with DP... for the most part. Well accept for the MW EQ.. that one I'm religious about.. and there's a few other's I'll toss on here and there and see how it goes.. and then I haven't really come to terms with the stuff that's new as of DP8..
So far there's stuff I'll throw in... and.. but nothing that makes me go wow.
I don't know how much of that might be some prejiduce in my mind against using plugs that come with a DAW versus 3rd party plugs.. accept that I use, for instance, Ableton Suite a fair amount.. and I seem to like the plugs there a good deal more then DPs.. although.. I'm not really huge on them ether.
