. I assume you mean printing a label directly on a CD designed for the purpose. I do that on a Canon printer without problems. It came with holders and software.

My understanding was that 2009 was the last year that Canon USA or HP offered direct to CD printing due to a licensing deal with Epson. I know that you couldn't get them for awhile. I just searched Canon USA and see that there are a few models that support it again.

I got one of the last HPs and it works much better than the Epson I replaced it with.

For small scale printing, the HP are hard to beat. There's a B&W with automatic duplexer for two sided printing on sale for $149. I've been buying them for my clients for years and have yet to replace one yet. In fact, looking at that one, perhaps I should get it for my wife's school work. For my work, the ink jet is better but she often prints handouts for her students.

Speaking of which, 2-sided printing is often difficult (or impossible) to call up in many applications and browsers. Here's a tip: Save to .pdf in the print menu. Now open the file in Preview and check the box for 2-Sided Printing. With my HP, I can also select Fast B&W mode which saves ink if I want to - not always an option when printing from other applications. Of course, your printer needs to support Duplex Printing.

Thanks for the recommendations on laser printers. I'm inclined to the HP. We had a Laserjet 3 bought in 1990, and used it forever. As far as I know it still works, but we had to give it up because we could no longer connect it to anything.
