Feature request-Lock up-down Sequence editor tracks

Post by Timeline »

A simple request. Although I'm still in 7 I don't think this feature exists in 8, or does it?

Lock it to the range of notes you have it focused on.

Thanks Dan yes.

Look, I'm obviously not the best of explaining these things but I always fight this when editing.

"Scroll lock" so when you grab a series of notes, the sequence track position, up/down is vertically locked.

I often do this and pull the mouse over multiple bars horizontally to select a group of notes to modify volume or quantize or whatever. Anyway, when I do the track moves on me vertically and it would be nice if you could lock it vertically. Is that clearer?

This isn't a very good workaround, but since there is no lock at this time, you could close all but the few tracks you're working on. Then it won't have anywhere to scroll. But that would get old, always having to show and hide tracks. Anyway, if you're working on a few tracks for a while, it might be worth it.

Sooshie. I'm not quite sure how this would work. Do you mean open up a few MIDI tracks full screen? Don't think I've tried that.

Have you ever attempted to highlight a group of notes and dragged horizontally to select a range and lost the notes from vertical movement? Sort of off the scale? Maybe full screen would make this issue better, don't know but I'll give it a try.

Please just keep this in mind for a simple feature enhancement and maybe we could get it done at MOTU if they agree. I know I would really appreciate it as I do allot of instrument level changes to match up dynamically with a score.

No, I was talking about the Sequence Editor, which is what's in your picture.

On the other hand, I do MIDI ONLY in the MIDI Graphic Edit Window, and indeed I keep it at full screen. Things never scroll offscreen for me, because the window encompasses the full range of the MIDI editor. And I never use the Sequence Editor for MIDI. It's just too clumsy. Works great for audio, not MIDI. Also, I use one window for all MIDI tracks. It's great to be able to see all your MIDI together, color-coded per track. And you can quickly make tracks disappear if you want to get them out of the way.

I'm with you here, Timeline.
I know exactly what you want. This feature would certainly be a nice DP addition

Also, if I may add, it would be great if MOTU created some sort of algorithm that ALWAYS makes the notes visible (SE), no matter where in the register they are, no matter which layer one is using, and no matter how big or small the track is at any given moment.
Having to scroll up and down (with no shortcuts) to see the register where the main bulk of the notes are, can become tedious very fast.

This algorithm could make the track show the notes "centered" in the lane, the bulk of them at least.

I'll start trying that more often and including it in my screen setup Sooshie. What key brings just that window up? I move around allot too and have gotten used to using the all inclusive SE page I guess.

FM, The algorithm to keep notes centered and visible on the SE page is a great idea too.
The clumsiness Shooshie mentioned i think hinges on this issue I think.

I suppose I work different since I don't see tracks moving around, but along these lines I'd love to see sorting by various columns in TO.
