4.6.1 killed my MIDI???

Post by afak »

Everything was working perfictly untill I installed this update?? Even Audio MIDI setup wont open!! It gives me "" DP is unable to run because the MIDI system has crashed. Please quit any programs that are using MIDI, and try agian" but the only program open is DP?? Now even logic wont work any ideas?

Installed it to the DP4.6 folder instead of the HDD that is right. . . right?

One more question can I delete Mouto DP4.5 Folder or is DP still using it?

I went to Activity Monitor and "MIDIServer" is 99.90%CPU / 7.49 Real Memery / 220.39 Virtual Memery.

I think this is the problem?

What are you using for a MIDI interface? Is it a MOTU unit? Make sure you download the latest drivers, install with the MIDI interface OFF, then reboot. Turn the MIDI interface on after, then launch DP. I had a similiar problem when I installed 4.61. I still am having some issue but at least my virtual instruments work. My outboard MIDI gear is still offline and I haven't figured it out yet.

Yeah, but I don't want to do that. Maybe as a last resort.

A friend had the same problem.
The solution was: in library>audio>MIDI driver was a m-audio driver.
Once deleted, everything was ok!
Just have a look if you have this driver?

Audio-drivers usually have nothing to do with the MIDI.
Is AMT8 different in this respect???

( I have a MIDI-driver for my Motu MTP AV and a firewiredriver for my Motu 828 Mk-I)

Get the latest MIDI-driver to your MIDI inteface.
Repair permissions on your boot-drive.
Install the latest MIDI-driver for your interface.
Repair permissions again after install.
Reboot your computer.
Turn your MIDI-interface on

Below are my 22 paragraph list fot troubleshooting MIDI-issues.
At the time I was having problems with MIDI system exclusive messages
beeing recorded.

The list was compiled with help from Nathan at Motu:
1) Remove all FW USB adio & MIDI-interfaces from your computer.

2) Reboot your computer

3) Uninstall all fw and usb-drivers

4) Open a new project in DP4/DP4.0.1

5) Put DP in MIDI only mode. "Setup"-menu --> Audio System --> MIDI Only

6) Go to: "Setup"-menu --> Interapplication MIDI...

7) In the "Interapplication MIDI" - dialog check the "Software Synthesizer"

9) Create a number of MIDI tracks - 6 to 8 tracks will do.

10) Using the pencil tool only, add MIDI notes into the tracks

11) Loop the sequence let it play for an hour or two or 24, whatever.

12) If this plays along fine start adding things back in.

13) Reconnect your usb/fw - MIDI-interface and install proper latest driver.

14) Reboot your computer.

15) Go To "Audio/MIDI Prefs" - utility. Setup your minimum studio.
Connect "ONE" cable from your interface to the MIDI-in on your synth-module.

16) Do the same in the real world, i.e. between your interface and & your synth.
Only one cable from Interface MIDI-out to your synth MIDI-in, will prevent MIDI log jams.

17) If this plays back without a hitch, through your synthesizer module. Connect the next cable
in both the "Audio/MIDI prefs" - utility and between your interface and synth.
From interface MIDI-in - to synth MIDI-out

18) If this plays back OK, add your other synth:s and keyboard controller back in one cable at
a time. Like in paragraphs 15,16 & 17.

19) If this plays back OK, start recording over or add more MIDI-tracks using your
keyboard-controller as input.

20) If this plays back OK with the new tracks added your are probaly green-lighted and set to go.
If NOT, open the eventlists (select the tracks & press Shift+E keys at the same time)
for the newly recorded tracks. Look or search for recorded MIDI-exclusive messages if any.

21) Select and remove all the system exclusive messages. At least as many as possible.
Do the same for any MIDI-track you see MIDI-exclusives in.
Maybe I'll come in useful.

I updated my MOTU MIDI driver for my MTPAV. Suddenly the interface couldn't be seen by DP!

I tried rebooting everything several times. Nothing. Finally, with everything turned on, I simply unplugged the MIDI interface waited a few seconds and plugged it back in. I did this on both sides of the cable. Each time I could hear the drive kick in for the USB auto sensing.

That apparantly was the handshake needed to get it going. Its been fine since.
