DP 7 Install Disk won't read

Post by Robbie_2327 »

I had to reformat my internal hard drive. It was recommended that I re-install OSX (10.6.8) from the disc after I reformated. I did and then put everything back onto my hard drive from my back up. when I try to open DP 7.24 it asks for the install DVD and my keycode. The problem is that my iMac doesn't seem to recognize the install DVD. It spins it a little then spits it back out.

I have sent an email to MOTU tech support but I'm just wondering if perhaps I did or am doing something wrong? Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Robbie

I have had that issue. It was worst in 10.6 and 10.7. Few problems in 10.8 and nonexistent in 10.9.

Have you run all of the 10.6 updaters? Depending on your iMac, some may affect the operation of your drive.

Reboot. Repair Permissions (I know, this takes forever in 10.6 but it must be done and can affect Authentication).

Here are a number of things to try:

Is the CD dirty? If smudged, dish soap is good. If scratched, Brasso has saved many CDs for me over the years.

Do you have a lense cleaner CD? These have soft nylon brushes on them. In dusty environments, these should be run about once a year. One of my clients is a guitar maker - he needs to run his every two months.

Do you have an external CD/DVD? If so, reinsert the CD in your internal drive if you have one. You have an iMac so your internal drive should be good but some people remove them to install SSDs so I am not assuming.

If no internal, is your external FW or usb? Intel Macs officially support usb drives only and I have had authentication issues with external drives connected via FW. Yes, really.

If an external drive: Shut down your Mac. Turn on the drive. Connect via usb if possible. Now start your Mac.

In OS 10.6 and 10.7 especially, the Install CD can take a very long time to authenticate and may time out. Sometimes it's just a matter of re-inserting and trying a few times before it 'takes'.

When typing in the code, use dashes instead of the 'minus' sign from the numerical keypad. That one drove me nuts one afternoon.

Did this too

There was a tiny smudge that I took off last night after it popped out the first time. No scratches that I can see

I don't have one

I only have the internal DVD that came with my iMac

Well, I've been trying this. I don't know how many times would make a difference. So far, no luck

I did call MOTU tech support today. They told me to download the DP 7.24 update again and then repair persmissions and also to do something with the sharing for the users in "get info". Nothing has worked. MOTU did say that if none of this worked that I could call them back and that they would send me a new disk. It's looking like that's the only option left at this point.

thanks for you help

Re: DP 7 Install Disk won't read - IT's WORKING!!

Post by Robbie_2327 »

STOP THE PRESSES!!!!! It took!!!!

I took your last piece of advice and just kept popping it back in while doing something else on the computer. I have no idea of how many times I had to try it but FINALLY it took. Took my code on the first shot and it appears (fingers still crossed) that I am up and running again after too long a period of being down

Thanks for the help!

Well, DP is up and running but I still need to do some more work.

I cannot get any signal from my keyboard. I have an Oxygen 88 which is USB. Never had a problem with it before. Not sure what I'm missing..

Also, I can load the sounds from all of my VI's except EWQLSO. I used the NI service center and all of my other East/West libraries (I have the old ones still on Kontakt) are working now except this one.

Well, I need to call it a night. Any input on what I might be missing here would be appreciated. Thanks guys
