Tiger 10.4.3

Post by Beatworld »

I notice this is now available for download.

Already people with M'Audio gear are noticing problems.

I have a PCI 324 and 2408 Mk II which are fine with 10.4.2.

So has anyone had any issues with 10.4.3 and MOTU drivers ??

Thanks

I can't get any Main output on my 828 mkii; headphone output works though...and this right after I upgraded to 10.4.3. Beware.

Had an initial problem getting my 2408mk3 recognized.
After a reboot all is well.
Everything (appears) to be fine so far.

Never mind -- embarrassingly, the reason my main output didn't work is that the power to the speakers was off. All's well now.

hhmm...it may be misguided but maybe thats a Firewire issue which I won't experience with a PCI situation.

Sorry to hear you are having issues.

I am at the day job so can't install everything until tonight.

CPU performance issues showed up with 10.4.3

Post by thgmusic »

Here is a copy of a post I just did over at motu-mac:

<<After I did the "Software Update" to 10.4.3, I began having some real issues
with my
Firewire 410 that I had not experienced before.

How this relates to DP is that the processor load has become totally
unreasonable. It was
no where near this bad before.

There is also now a "kernel_task" process that shows up in my activity monitor
that I have
not seen before. It runs as high as 13% CPU load even when nothing is going on!
When you
combine that with the processor requirements for a VI or two, well...it's not
pretty.

So, I'm wondering if there was something in the "Software Update" to 10.4.3 that
is not
getting along with my 410, and if going back and doing a Combo Update to 10.4.3
might
help? Or can you even go back and do a Combo Update back to 10.4.2?

I would really appreciate any help you can give. I had a workable setup before,
and now it's
just frustrating beyond words.

Any help from this community would also be appreciated. I don't think I'm going to be as quick to do updates from now on!

I went ahead and did the 10.4.3 update.

So far I haven't noticed any issues with my PCI 324 and 2408 Mk II.

I have mainly used 10.4.3 with Cubaase SX 3.1.1 and a little bit with Live 4.12. I have also use iTunes quite a lot playing CDs and listening to broadcasts etc.

I haven't tried any really demanding projects in SX. Only audio (max about 24 tracks) with no VI's. Also I have a TC PCI Powercore so cpu intensive plugs like reverb are run on that and not my cpu.

I am happy with 10.4.3 so far.

Bradn

Thanks for your provate message. Hope you see this.

I am still in 10.4.2 ONLY because of the FireWire issues. But I am glad I did not upgrade as I suspect I would loose access to the FW410.

A few "fixes" have been posted elsewhere (MacFixIt, etc.) for the M-Audio FW issues.

1- Install an earlier driver from M-Audio. This solved some FW problems for some; not for others.

2- Reapply the OS Update (10.4.3) even two or three more times. This has solved some folks probles (and again, not for eveybody.)

I check for the kernal_task you mentioned and know it has been around on my Mac for a long time. Just now, it was at 1.3% (on a Dual 2.0 G5 with 2.5GB RAM.) When I ran the FW410 utility, it jumped a bit to 1.9%, but nothing as high as your 13%. (Sure it wasn;t 1.3%?)

If you do try any of the above, please let me know by posting here. BTW, I am using the 1.5.1 driver from M-Audio.

Hey MIDI Life Crisis, thanks for the reply and suggestions.

I will try what you suggest, starting with the re-installing of the 10.4.3 update. I am about to upgrade my laptop, so I figure I should do the "experiments" on my old laptop!

By the way, the "kernel_task" reading really was 10 to 13%, DP's "idling" CPU hit with one instance of GPO loaded was around 20%, so even with every window closed that I could, and every other program closed except for Activity Monitor, I was maxing out the CPU very quickly.
